We work on behalf of DND's "no fail" mission at Goose Bay: supporting NORAD operations for the projection of air power on the north and northeast coasts of Canada, while supporting military training for the Canadian Armed Forces, Allies and NORAD. 5 Wing Goose Bay provides effective training facilities, adaptable infrastructures, and a unique, austere, and challenging training location. Summary/Purpose
Conduct work activities to provide, preventative maintenance (PM), corrective maintenance (CM), service calls for all CHP boilers, satellite boilers, oil fired furnaces, control systems, and all related auxiliary equipment to ensure systems are fully operational to meet the heating/steam generation requirements at 5 Wing.
Ensure compliance with all Serco Canada Inc. policies and procedures, including but not limited to Code of Conduct and Ethics, Serco Management System, PDR's, etc.
Operate in compliance with the NL Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Compressed Air Regulations and the NL Public Safety Act.
Key Responsibilities
Operate the CHP and remote boilers, control systems, and auxiliary equipment such as Air Compressors, Water Softener Plant, and other plant equipment to meet steam demand loads for all facilities connected on the Steam distribution system.
Monitor and inspect plant equipment, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, meters, and other instruments to measure temperature, pressure and fuel flow, to detect leaks or other equipment malfunctions and to ensure efficient, safe operation of all related equipment/systems.
Conduct heating/steam system work activities required to operate, install, service, repair, or replace steam heating, LTHW, or steam distribution systems.
Maintain logs as directed and record all conditions concerning the Plant.
Remotely monitor various buildings control systems using a computer.
Work with Shift Supervisor in overseeing all activities of other trades personnel who may be working in the Plant.
Act as Shift Supervisor when required as per the NL Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Compressed Air Regulations and the NL Public Safety Act.
Perform mechanical tasks, and maintenance on all plant equipment, satellite boilers, and Steam distribution systems.
Analyze and record instrument readings and equipment malfunctions and make adjustments or repairs as required.
Preparation of cost estimates for plant and related system repairs.
Read and interpret specifications, scopes, sketches or drawings to determine the layout of heating systems, and steam distribution requirements.
Ensure all lifting devices in the CHP are safe to use and monitor the logbook associated with the devices.
Monitor the storage area and keep a record of materials used.
Document all information concerning the work performed, labour and materials used to complete assigned work.
Train apprentices to Power Engineer standard and endorse appropriate documentation.
Participate in assigned training/certification to perform work of the contract.
Ensure all assigned deliverables and other reports are completed accurately and on time.
Visibly demonstrate Serco Values and work practices while completing duties.
May be required to perform work at remote and isolated sites.
Other related duties relevant to this position as may be required.
Comply with all regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to the operations including occupational health and safety, environmental, drug and alcohol, and quality.
Job Requirements
EDUCATION /CERTIFICATIONS:
Possession of a valid Inter-Provincial Power Engineering Second Class Certificate of competency or Third Class accepted in the Province of Newfoundland.
Possession of a valid NL Class 5 driver's license is required.
Ability to obtain and maintain an Enhanced Reliability security clearance is required. May be required to upgrade to Secret Level II (dependent upon customer's security requirements).
Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening test.
Ability to obtain drivers abstract.
KNOWLEDGE and EXPERENCE
Three years' experience in a high-pressure power plant or three year diploma course at a reputable college.
