Job Summary
Lorex is seeking a motivated Junior QA Tester to join our quality assurance team. This is a foundational role perfect for an individual eager to learn the complexities of a "full-stack" ecosystem. You will be responsible for testing how our hardware (recorders/cameras/sensors), firmware, cloud services, and client applications (Mobile, Desktop, Web) work together as a single, seamless product.
As a Junior Tester, you will focus on executing test cases, identifying bugs, and ensuring that our smart home security solutions meet the high standards our customers expect. You will work under the guidance of Senior QA members and collaborate across hardware and software teams.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Test Execution & Bug Reporting
Manual Testing: Execute predefined test plans for mobile apps (iOS/Android), web portals, and desktop software.
Hardware Integration: Conduct "device-to-app" testing to ensure recorders, cameras and sensors pair correctly and stream video accurately through cloud services.
Defect Logging: Clearly document bugs, glitches, and inconsistencies in JIRA, providing step-by-step reproduction instructions and supporting media (screenshots/logs).
Regression Testing: Perform routine checks on new software builds to ensure that existing features remain functional after updates.
2. Documentation & Support
Test Case Maintenance: Assist in updating test libraries as product features evolve.
Release Assistance: Support the release process by validating final builds and assisting with app store metadata or internal distribution tasks.
Log Collection: Help isolate root causes by capturing device logs and monitoring cloud API responses during the testing process.
3. Cross-Functional Learning
Team Collaboration: Participate in "sprint" meetings and product demos to understand new requirements.
Hardware Support: Coordinate with the hardware team to test physical device triggers (e.g., motion detection, night vision) in conjunction with app notifications.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Experience
Education: College diploma or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
Experience: 0–2 years of experience in software or hardware testing (Internship experience is highly valued).
Technical Aptitude: A strong interest in IoT (Internet of Things), smart home technology, and how cloud systems interact with physical devices.
Knowledge & Skills
Foundational QA: Basic understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and QA methodologies (Functional, Smoke, and Regression testing).
Device Savvy: Comfortable navigating both iOS and Android platforms, including installing beta builds.
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear bug reporting.
Analytical Mindset: A "detective" mentality—the ability to spot small details that others might miss.
Preferred (Assets)
Language: Proficiency in Mandarin is a strong asset for communicating with manufacturing partners.
Tools: Exposure to JIRA, TestRail, or basic automation tools.
Industry: Familiarity with video surveillance or home automation products.
Competency Profile
Adaptability: Eagerness to learn new technologies in a fast-paced environment.
Attention to Detail: Precision in following test steps and documenting results.
Collaboration: A positive attitude when working with diverse teams (Hardware, Software, and Product).
Ownership: Taking pride in the quality of the products you verify.
Lorex welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.
