The Opportunity
You bring a wealth of knowledge and experience with engaging students in oral/aural and/or reading/writing learning activities to supplement instruction in English Language Learning and Acquisition ( ELLA ) courses. You work seamlessly with faculty to deliver lessons, occasionally lead field trips, and initiate other in-class activities to drive a safe and engaging learning environment. Together with instructors in these courses, you are an instrumental team member in providing feedback from the learning lab activities, tracking student progress, and identifying ways to enhance students' comprehension of learning activities.

What It Takes
Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, including written and/or verbal fluency in English and) the target language (such as, but not limited to, American Sign Language, Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish)
Familiarity with computer-based language learning activities;
Good working knowledge of the principles of effective language acquisition;
A demonstrated ability to:
speak or sign the target language fluently;
initiate and conduct conversations in English or the target language and encourage the participation of students;
follow the course materials provided faculty members;
facilitate educational activities in a large group setting;
facilitate tutoring in small group or one on one settings;

This temporary, on-call position is available starting February 23, 2026. The position is located at the New Westminster campus and at the Coquitlam campus. Travel between campuses may be required. Work shifts generally take place between 8:30am and 8:00pm, Monday to Friday per the lab schedules set each semester. Scheduled hours range between 4 hours to 7 hours per day, depending on the assignment. The number of hours per semester differs based on course offerings and demand. Shift days and times may change depending on the Department's need. Occasional evening and/or weekend work and overtime may be required.
