We rescue surplus, unsold food from across the supply chain and redistribute it to non-profits across the country to feed communities. Demonstrating our values of community, environment, integrity and collaboration, we strive for No Waste. No Hunger.

If you are ready to bring your expertise and innovation to a mission-driven organization, this is your moment.

Enter Second Harvest…  Think we're just about redirecting food surplus? Think bigger.

Here's why Second Harvest is your next career leap:

  • Pioneers in food rescue, we are a renowned leader in perishable food redistribution across Canada.
  • With a mission fueled by a no-waste, no-hunger ethos, we're not just changing the game—we're rewriting the rules.
  • Our strategic approach aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), making every day a step towards global change.

The Role
As Dispatch & Logistics Coordinator, you'll play a vital role in keeping our food distribution network running smoothly and reliably. Based out of our Etobicoke warehouse, you'll manage daily dispatch operations for the in‑house fleet—planning routes, monitoring real‑time progress, resolving issues on the fly, and ensuring every movement is accurately tracked.
You'll also take the lead in coordinating third‑party logistics, working closely with asset‑based carriers and freight brokers to support deliveries into rural and remote communities across Canada. As the central communication hub between drivers, donor partners, recipient agencies, and external carriers, you'll help uphold our service standards and contribute to a seamless, efficient, and impactful distribution operation.
We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, communicates with clarity and confidence, takes ownership of the details, and brings a solutions‑focused mindset to every challenge.

Your Impact
In this role, you'll help keep our distribution network running efficiently and reliably every day. You will:

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily routes to ensure timely pickups and deliveries.
  • Communicate clearly with drivers, donor partners, and recipient agencies to confirm details and resolve issues.
  • Monitor route progress in real time, adjusting plans as needed to keep operations on track.
  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, pickups, and route updates.
  • Track and report on delivery performance metrics.
  • Troubleshoot logistical challenges and escalate complex issues when required.
  • Support inventory checks and ensure all food movements are properly documented.
  • Respond promptly to dispatch-related calls and emails.
  • Collaborate with donor partners and not-for-profit organizations to ensure high‑quality service.
  • Manage relationships with third‑party carriers, negotiating with asset-based carriers and freight brokers for deliveries to rural and remote areas.
  • Support additional Fleet & Warehouse Operations activities as needed.

Who You Are

  • Experienced Dispatcher with 1–2 years of dispatch and/or logistics coordination experience.
  • 3PL Experienced, confident managing third‑party carriers and negotiating transportation solutions for rural or remote regions.
  • Strong Communicator with clear verbal and written communication skills and a professional, partner‑focused approach.
  • Highly Proficient in Digital Tools, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and dispatch software.
  • Strategic Problem Solver who thinks critically, adapts quickly, and resolves challenges in real time.
  • Detail‑Oriented and Organized, able to prioritize effectively and consistently deliver accurate, high‑quality work.
  • Collaborative Team Player who works well across teams and with external partners to support seamless operations.
  • Sustainability‑Minded, with an interest in environmental stewardship (considered an asset).

Second Harvest Offers a Robust Compensation Package

  • A competitive salary paired with a robust benefits package.
  • Comprehensive group insurance (health, dental, life, AD&D and Long-Term disability)
  • Employer match contributions (3%) to a Defined Benefit Pension Plan.
  • Access to parental leave top-up.
  • 4 weeks of annual vacation & 1 additional day per year of service (max 30).
  • 10 paid sick days & 3 personal days.
  • Summer Bonus-Days & Winter holiday closure.
  • Access to an Employee and Family Assistance Program.
  • Professional growth in a role that makes a real difference.
