The role of a Border Patrol Agent is to safeguard our borders, prevent illegal activities and enhance the nation's economic prosperity.

This involves detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration laws, inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations. Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens, smugglers of noncitizens at or near the borders is also part of this responsibility.
