Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. Nature & Scope
This Administrative Assistant - Summer Student will have the opportunity to gain excellent office work experience while developing the skills necessary to be successful in their future. The summer student will have an opportunity to improve their teamwork and communication skills, as well as, their administrative skills and leadership capabilities. This position provides administrative functions while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and careful handling of highly confidential and sensitive information. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.
General Accountabilities
The Administrative Assistant – Summer Student will have the opportunity to gain excellent office work experience while developing the skills necessary to be successful in their future. The summer student will have an opportunity to improve their teamwork and communication skills, as well as, their administrative skills and leadership capabilities. This position provides additional support as required and includes the following broad range of accountabilities:
Specific Accountabilities
Provide professional administrative assistance to your direct supervisor and to employees in the department to support the accomplishment of business activities
Assist in maintaining the filing systems of the department
Carry out quality control of data entry as required
Receive, sort, and send mail, courier packages, and other deliveries
Handle and process documents with confidentiality and compliance while exercising best practice with administrative procedures.
Assist with records management, records destruction and file maintenance - physical and electronic as well as the retention and destruction of documents
Provide administrative support to the department including photocopying, faxing, filing documents and reports and maintaining files
Provide support and back-up coverage in the office during periods of high workload and absences
Provide additional support on special projects and department initiatives as required
There may be some summer student positions that must meet the following criteria:
First Nations and Inuit secondary and post-secondary students aged 15 to 30 inclusive
Ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities or on community lands
Legally entitled to work in Canada
Registered as students during the preceding academic year and who intend to return to studies in the next academic year
Position Requirements: Prior experience working with Microsoft Office suite of programs is an asset. Prior experience working with data entry is an asset. Prior experience working with databases is an asset.
