Your Opportunity at SECUREWe are seeking an experienced Short Haul Driver to join our Richmond Waste Services team. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of waste between collection sites and client locations, operating a vacuum truck, Hiab, and cube van. Candidates must hold a valid Class 3 or Class 1 Commercial Driver's License with a Standard Transmission endorsement.
Work EnvironmentThe Short Haul Driver role is structured as a Monday to Friday position, with overtime and weekend work as required.
A Day in The Life- Safely operate various Waste Management units, including vacuum truck, Hiab, and cube van etc; in diverse weather including winter driving and challenging work site environments
- Perform physical tasks such as unloading hoses used in vacuum and pressure washing operations, as well as rolling and maneuvering drums in accordance with safe handling procedures.
- Inspect transport units and loads for safe operation during, prior to and after all transport assignments as required by Waste Management, jurisdictional, and / or NSC standards
- Ensure all loads are properly secured in accordance with safety standards.
- Complete and submit all required documentation in a timely manner, including logbooks, inspection reports, time tickets, manifests, trip records, fuel receipts, and credit card receipts.
- Ensure all waste containers are labeled in accordance with TDG Regulations. (Drums - stick on labels, Bags - in pocket, Bins - wire tie label). Ensure all labels are completed in full including shipping name, generator name, approval number, TDG Class, UN number, Packing Group number, load number, drum number, etc.
- Prepare manifests and/or bills of lading, as required, for each transaction
- Inspect all waste material to ensure compliance with manifest, recycle docket and bill of lading description
- Communicate with customers regarding expected onsite arrival and service requirements
- Ensure all transport of hazardous and non-hazardous materials complies with TDG Regulations.
- Ensure all equipment and loads meet applicable weight and dimension regulations for each jurisdiction traveled.
- Work effectively in a team environment and participate in an on-call rotation to support after-hours and weekend operations.
- Minimum of 3 years of driving experience
- Prior experience operating vacuum trucks, Hiabs, and cube vans is considered a strong asset
- Experience and proven ability to utilize tire chains
- Strong understanding of Canadian geography, highway systems, and remote oilfield locations
- Strong knowledge of Hours of Service, load securement, and driving regulations
- Ability to accurately maintain logbooks, trip records, and inspection reports in accordance with legislated requirements
- Strong understanding of TDG Regulations and safety requirements related to labeling, handling, and transporting hazardous materials
- Ability to prepare waste manifests and/or bills of lading as required for each transaction
- Ability to conduct proper pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure safe operation of transport vehicles
- Strong mechanical knowledge related to the maintenance, servicing, and repair of transport vehicles
- Ability to safely operate transport vehicles in difficult weather conditions and challenging work site environments
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, shoveling, and moving containers or other heavy materials
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work long days and occasionally overnights
