About the Role
We are partnering with a well-established, privately held organization in Southwestern Ontario to recruit a Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting function. This role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and plays a critical part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and meaningful financial insight to support operational and strategic decision-making.
The Controller will oversee a broad range of accounting activities across multiple operating entities, including inventory, invoicing, accounts receivable, credit management, accounts payable, and payroll. Working closely with the CFO and senior leadership, this individual will be challenged to move beyond traditional reporting and provide value-added analysis, identify trends, and highlight opportunities for continuous improvement across the business.
This role is well suited to a hands-on finance leader who enjoys balancing operational execution with strategic thinking in a fast-paced, asset- and service-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead all corporate accounting operations, including AR, AP, inventory control, invoicing, credit management, and payroll oversight
• Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
• Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and operational analysis for internal and external stakeholders
• Partner with leadership to analyze financial performance, investigate variances, and deliver actionable insights
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning in collaboration with the CFO and leadership team
• Develop, implement, and maintain strong accounting policies, processes, and internal controls
• Lead and develop a finance team of approximately seven direct reports, supporting performance, engagement, and professional growth
• Act as the primary liaison with external auditors, banks, and advisors
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across financial systems, reporting, and business processes
Ideal Candidate Profile
• CPA designation required
• 3–5+ years of post-designation experience with progressive responsibility, including people leadership
• Strong background in financial reporting, internal controls, and operational accounting
• Experience in asset-heavy, multi-entity, or service-based environments is an asset
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with Sage platforms (Sage 50 / Sage 300), Yardi, or similar ERP systems is beneficial
• Hands-on, detail-oriented leader who can operate at both strategic and operational levels
• Strong communicator with the ability to partner effectively across the organization
Why Consider This Opportunity?
• Join a stable, privately held organization with a long-standing presence in Southwestern Ontario and a diversified operating platform
• Work directly alongside an engaged CFO and leadership team that values financial insight, operational discipline, and continuous improvement
• Lead a well-established finance team while having the opportunity to modernize processes, enhance reporting, and strengthen controls
• Exposure to a multi-entity, asset-heavy environment, offering variety and complexity beyond traditional single-entity roles
• Competitive compensation and benefits, with a clear opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a hands-on leadership role
Vacancy
This role is available due to a recent change within the finance function. The organization is seeking a Controller whose experience and leadership style align closely with its current operational needs and long-term direction.
Compensation Package
• Base salary range: $100,000 – $125,000, commensurate with experience
• Comprehensive health and dental benefits
• Progressive DPSP program
• Training and professional development opportunities
Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and overall fit.
