As a Production Control – Purchaser, you will be involved in the day-to-day operations of purchasing and order fulfillment to ensure accurate and timely inventory and order management. To excel in this role, strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills are required to effectively manage inventory levels and coordinate with internal departments.
 

Locations: 140 & 160 Consolidated Drive, Paris, ON

Dedicated Day Shift: 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday

Job Duties

  • Prepare purchase orders by verifying specifications and price, obtaining recommendations from suppliers for substitute items, expediting parts to ensure production flow and eliminating shortages    
  • Obtain purchased items by forwarding orders to suppliers, monitoring, and expediting orders   
  • Update the delivery schedule to align with production demands
  • Assess supplier profiles and analyze quotes   
  • Prepare and implement effective negotiation tactics to negotiate contracts and policies with suppliers    
  • Provide support and interact with cross-functional teams (Planning, Value Stream Leaders, Supervisors, and Engineering)
  • Take direction from others while maintaining a positive disposition and collaborative approach    
  • Manage relationships with key suppliers to maintain quality of goods, timely delivery, and compliance with terms of contracts   
  • Work with other procurement team members to split daily tasks accordingly   
  • Strive for continuous improvements to strengthen the purchasing role process   

Skills and Experience

  • Understanding of manufacturing methods and procedures    
  • Demonstrable experience in negotiating prices and terms and conditions    
  • Knowledge of market research, data analysis, and purchasing best practices    
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and MRP systems    
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills    
  • A strong analytical mindset    
  • Outstanding organizational skills 

Qualifications

  • Education and training related to business, supply chain management, materials management or a related field required
  • Previous experience in purchasing or inventory management is required
  • Previous experience in a shop or warehouse setting can be beneficial
  • Proficiency in common PC software, including MS Word and MS Excel
