Who You Are
You are a seasoned accounting professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and takes pride in accuracy, organization, and continuous improvement. You bring a strong understanding of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and the confidence to manage complex financial processes with minimal supervision.
You are highly detail-oriented, analytical, and deadline-driven, but you also enjoy being part of a team where your insights and ideas are valued. You're comfortable working independently while knowing when to collaborate to achieve the best outcomes. Your strong communication skills allow you to explain financial information clearly and effectively to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
Overview:
Reporting to the VP of Finance and Governance, the Senior Accountant is a key contributor to the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. This role supports day-to-day accounting operations, month-end close processes, reconciliations, government remittances, and audit preparation while working closely with the accounting team and across all retail locations. This position is well-suited for a detail-oriented, analytical professional who thrives in a collaborative environment, takes ownership of their work, and is motivated to support sound financial decision-making through strong technical accounting expertise.
Roles & Responsibilities
Reporting to the VP of Finance and Governance, the Senior Accountant is responsible for:
- Maintaining the accuracy of the financial books and records for the Company
- Coordinating with other members of the accounting department to compile, analyze, and report on financial data
- Working with each retail location for daily deposit reconciliations and following up on cash discrepancies
- Bank account reconciliations
- Preparation/posting of adjusting journal entries
- Monthly end closing procedures including reconciliation of general ledger accounts
- Preparation of all government returns and remittances, such as HST, in accordance with applicable legislation and filing deadlines
- Preparation of monthly draft financial statements for review by the leadership team
- Maintain property, plant and equipment listing for
- Assist in preparation of working papers for annual audits and tax returns
- Ability to complete special projects/assignments on an as needed basis
Qualifications
- University Degree in Accounting
- Professional Accounting Designation is not necessary but considered an asset
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
- Thorough understanding of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE)
- Strong analytical and accounting skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and also collaborate within a team
- Ability to multi-task effectively and ensure adherence to deadlines with strong attention to detail
- Exceptional MS Office and Accounting software skills
- Oracle Netsuite experience considered an asset
