This is a 5-month term position with the possibility of extension.  This role is expected to start at Grade 6 Step 1 of the salary scale.

Job Summary
The Cragg Lab conducts population-based epidemiologic studies with a focus on neurological and spinal conditions, medication safety, and health outcomes. The Research Assistant/Tech 3 will support data-driven research involving administrative health databases, surveys, and Census data. The role involves coordinating data extraction and cleaning, complex statistical analyses, supporting manuscript and report preparation, and working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in statistics and epidemiology.
Organizational Status
The incumbent will report directly to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Jacquelyn Cragg, and will work collaboratively with graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other research personnel within the Cragg Lab.
Work Performed

  • Analyze and interpret data results from health databases, surveys and Censuses.  Design statistical analysis plans and execute complex statistical analyses.

  • Contribute to knowledge translation activities such as manuscript preparation and preparation of presentations.

  • Write reports and present experimental findings to the research group and principal investigator.

  • Provide training and/or guidance to new research personnel (e.g. students, volunteers) on routine procedures and the use of tools.

  • Perform other duties to support ongoing research projects as needed

Consequence of Error/Judgement
All work will be reviewed by the Principal Investigator or senior research staff. Errors in data handling, analysis, or reporting could negatively impact research quality and outputs. Strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and adherence to research ethics are essential.
Supervision Received
Works under the general supervision of Dr. Cragg and in close coordination with research staff and trainees.
Supervision Given
This position does not include formal supervisory responsibilities. However, the Research Assistant/Tech 3 may provide informal guidance to new lab members (e.g., students or volunteers) on routine procedures or tools as they become more experienced. All necessary training and mentorship will be provided to support the successful completion of tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in statistics

  • Coursework or experience with statistical consulting

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with statistical software (R, STATA, SAS, or Python).

  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research setting

Skills:

  • Ability to use MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint effectively.

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment, exercising sound judgment and decision-making.

  • Attentive to detail, with the ability to work quickly and accurately.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, multitasking and meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion when handling sensitive and/or confidential matters.
