A border patrol agent's work is to safeguard our borders by detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration laws while inspecting documents and possessions for citizenship or violations.

• Maintaining surveillance from covert positions using infrared scopes during night operations to prevent undocumented noncitizens and smugglers from crossing the international boundary.

This position provides opportunities for advancement based on merit with promotions available without reapplying after 52 weeks at each grade level progressing through GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11 and GS-12 levels.
