Winpak Portion Packaging Ltd. is currently seeking an Electrical Technician to join our Production Department in Rexdale, Ontario.

In this role, you will ensure that our production equipment and building systems operate at peak efficiency. In this role, you will troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical systems, contributing directly to minimizing downtime, maximizing productivity, and maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Maintenance & Repairs

  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults in high-volume production equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure equipment reliability, safety, and product quality.
  • Assist mechanics with mechanical repairs as required.
  • Utilize electrical testing tools such as voltmeters, ammeters, multimeters, meggers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Install, modify, and maintain industrial electrical systems, including wiring, control equipment, and fixtures.
  • Restore repaired or replaced equipment to production-ready condition and recommend alternative parts when necessary.

Preventative Maintenance & Monitoring

  • Conduct regular inspections to identify potential issues before they cause downtime.
  • Recommend solutions and notify supervisors of persistent problems.

Operational Support & Miscellaneous Duties

  • Assist supervisors and lead hands in machinery inspections and troubleshooting.
  • Perform repairs on outside plant service equipment as needed.
  • Provide pre- and post-installation recommendations for equipment.
  • Maintain parts lists, comply with inventory control, and manage work orders in CMMS.
  • Maintain an organized and safe work environment.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Follow company and government safety policies, regulations, and programs.
  • Report unsafe conditions, near misses, or accidents immediately.
  • Adhere to GMP, sanitation, chemical control, and food safety policies.

Qualifications & Special Requirements

  • Industrial Electrician License (Ontario) required.
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, sensors (pressure, flow, proximity, limit switches), and electrical schematics.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to assist in mechanical repairs.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Availability for overtime or on-call work as required.

Working Environment

  • Primarily machine shop and production floor settings with exposure to noise, temperature changes, and moving equipment.
  • Use of PPE is required (safety glasses, safety shoes, fall protection, welding PPE, arc flash, electrical gloves, hearing protection, as applicable).
  • Must have your own toolbox and tools.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, bending, crouching, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in awkward positions to access equipment.
  • May involve rotating shifts, exposure to dusts, fumes, or gases within permissible limits.
