Inspired by a commitment to excellence, the Food & Beverage Shift Manager will assist the Food & Beverage Manager with the daily oversight of all departmental activities. The successful candidate will ensure a high level of proficiency and profitability for all divisions of the department: Dockside Restaurant, The Ice Cream Shop, The Upper Deck, Onboard Menu, Ivy Lea, and Private Charters. The Food & Beverage Shift Manager will contribute to the success of the operation by having diligent oversight of crew regarding all company standards & hygiene expectations, adherence to food handling best practice, local health unit standards, all while contributing to a safe and welcoming work environment for all employees. Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides amazing hospitality to coworkers and guests as prescribed in our RESPECT Service System
Assists the Food & Beverage Manager with recruitment, training and development, performance management, and retention of all Food & Beverage crew.
Works with the Food & Beverage Manager to ensure accuracy of inventory management. This includes but is not limited to: verifying deliveries, control and safeguard of locked zones, waste management and record keeping, and annual inventory assessments.
Collaborates with Food & Beverage Manager to complete accurate record keeping for: equipment preventative maintenance, annual equipment cleaning, equipment repairs, temperature logs, crew performance and incident reports.
Maintains high standards of food and restaurant safety for guests and staff including but not limited to: ensuring adherence to safe food temperature handling, sanitization, WHIMIS, provincial and local health unit requirements, departmental policies, and best practices.
Provides support to supervisors through training, coaching, and development in all areas of departmental operations and ensuring completion of daily duties.
Conducts pre-shift meetings with supervisors, ensuring important departmental information receives sign-off and is communicated to crew.
Provides support and assistance to the front-line positions when applicable to further enhance guest service.
Ensures completion of all opening and closing duties by assigned employees, as detailed on checklists.
Manages employee performance in a timely manner, ensuring company and departmental policies are adhered to.
Supports supervisors with the resolution of guest issues and complaints in a professional and timely manner within the scope of authority, referring any unusual situations to the Food & Beverage Manager.
Collaborates with other departments, as needed, to ensure food is delivered safety to all vessels.
Assists with onboard canteen inventory controls, by ensuring daily deliveries, reviewing waste records, and escalating any compliance concerns to the Food & Beverage Manager and Marine Operations Manager.
Assists in delivery of weekly pre-shift to Onboard Crew, reviewing any department specific information.
Works with a safety mindset by ensuring that employees follow all safety policies and procedures. Takes responsibility and accountability for the prevention of work-related injuries and/or illness by identifying and communicating risks, hazards, and opportunities on the job. Provides necessary measures (i.e., PPE) and allocates resources to keep the workplace safe.
Liaises with Food & Beverage
Supervisors to execute programs that improve the level of service, product quality, and proficiency of the department.
Leads by example, maintaining the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and sound work habits including but not limited to: adhering to the Employee Handbook and all company and departmental policies and procedures, attending all scheduled shifts, and
supporting site and departmental initiatives, objectives, leadership, and direction.
Maintains effective working relationships with other departments (Marine, Maintenance, Parking, Dock, Retail, and Administration).
Attends and participates in all scheduled meetings.
Enhances the City Cruises Gananoque name and reputation by delivering quality service and creating amazing experiences for guests and crew.
Acts as an ambassador and active participant of the Company's shared values RESPECT and customer service programs.
Volunteers to support and participate in activities that benefit the organization, town/township, RESPECT, customer service programs and other company seasonal/temporary activities
Other duties as assigned by Food & Beverage Manager.
Requirements & Qualifications:
O.S.S.D or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education.
Hospitality or Culinary degree/diploma preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years, hospitality focused, leadership experience.
Previous supervisory experience required.
Smart Serve Certificate required.
Food Handler's Certificate required.
Proficient knowledge of Beverage & Wine, culinary methods, commercial equipment and Alcohol and Food service regulations, laws and practices.
Strong communication skills (oral and written) tailored to different audiences. Knowledge of another language in addition to English is an asset.
Must possess a service orientation – actively looking for ways to help others.
Energetic, enthusiastic, and self-directed personality is essential. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities/tasks.
Moderate computer skills are essential; will frequently work with Microsoft office products as well as point of sale system and web-based applications.
The nature of the work may be strenuous, and the work environment may be warm. Will work for extended periods of time without sitting.
Required to lift furniture and other heavy items such as tables and chairs, up and down stairs.
Ability to work flexible hours and shifts which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
Required to be available for work on all weekends during June, July, August & September including major holidays.
Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 35 pounds (16 kilograms).
Full G driver's license with a clean driver's abstract
Non-slip footwear is required to ensure safety in the workplace. Crew members must wear appropriate non-slip shoes during shifts.
If required, wear additional assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection)
