Lifespan Education is an Australian social enterprise helping young people live and learn with joy, integrity, and agency in a digital world. We create books, guides, and curriculum materials used by students and educators across multiple countries.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a book designer to give our educational publications a cohesive, professional, and beautiful visual identity. We want someone who can take thoughtful, well-written content and present it in a way that feels warm, accessible, and trustworthy — not corporate, not bland.
The First Two Projects
1. Living a Good Digital Life — A reflective, philosophical book for young people and the adults who support them. It explores what it means to thrive in digital spaces, structured around four core practices. The tone is warm, personal, and contemplative. (56 pages)
Link: Thoughtful Chat — A learning guide for navigating challenging online text conversations. It includes frameworks, examples, and learning cards. More structured and workbook-like in feel, but still human-centered in tone. (30 pages)
Link: are currently typeset simply via Reedsy and need a proper design treatment — including cover design, interior layout, typography, and visual elements that bring the content to life.
Budget
We're budgeting $150–400 per book depending on scope and experience. Please include your proposed rate in your application. We value quality over the cheapest option, and we're happy to pay fairly for the right fit.
Timeline
We'd like both books completed within 4–6 weeks of project start. Please let us know your availability and whether this timeline is workable for you.
Ongoing Work
This is the start of an ongoing relationship. We publish several books and guides per year and will commission each as a separate project. We're looking for a designer who can become a long-term creative partner, developing a consistent visual language for the Lifespan Education brand across future titles.
What We Need
Cover design (front cover, back cover, spine where applicable)
Interior layout and typography
Visual elements, icons, or illustrations where appropriate
Print-ready and digital (PDF) export files
Consistent design system that can be applied to future books
Ideal Designer
Experience designing non-fiction books, educational materials, or purpose-driven publications
Able to balance warmth and professionalism — this isn't academic dry, and it isn't children's loud
Comfortable with content that has a cross-cultural, global audience (our readers span Australia, Southeast Asia, and beyond)
Proactive communicator who can suggest design decisions, not just execute instructions
Portfolio showing book interiors is essential
To Apply
Please share your portfolio, especially any book or educational publication design work. Tell us briefly what draws you to this kind of project. We're not just hiring a pair of hands — we're looking for someone who gets what we're trying to do.
Contract duration of 1 to 3 months.
