Job Title: UX Designer – Retail & Operational Systems
Location: 100% Remote, Canada
Experience: 4+ Years
Employment Type: Full Time
Rate: $60k CAD to $70k CAD
Role Summary: NearSource is looking for a UX Designer to lead the design of intuitive, efficient, and highly usable in-store technology interfaces supporting frontline retail and financial operations. This role focuses on optimizing Team Member interactions with transactional systems used in fast-paced, compliance-driven store environments. The selected candidate will drive workflow efficiency, accuracy, and usability across critical retail and financial processes while balancing operational realities, regulatory requirements, and technical constraints.
Key Responsibilities
Observe in-store Team Member workflows to identify friction, workarounds, training gaps, and adoption barriers
Lead UX design for high-frequency, compliance-driven retail and financial transactions
Architect workflows for item intake, pricing, customer profiles, loyalty enrollment, inventory management, loan processing, payments, and fraud mitigation
Design UI logic focused on data accuracy, keyboard-first and mobile navigation, validation, and error prevention
Collaborate with product, engineering, operations, risk, compliance, and legal teams to align on business rules and disclosures
Create wireframes, interactive prototypes, and annotated design specifications for transactional systems
Deliver pixel-perfect, production-ready UI designs balancing usability and visual polish
Validate designs through usability testing, workshops, and iterative reviews
Identify opportunities to reduce keystrokes, shorten learning curves, streamline flows, and minimize operational errors
Contribute to and evolve design systems with components optimized for operational workflows
Apply AI-assisted design tools to accelerate prototyping and iteration while maintaining design quality
Must-Have Skills
4+ years of UX/UI design experience focused on operational workflows, internal tools, or transaction processing systems
Strong expertise in information architecture, form design, workflow optimization, and conditional logic
Hands-on experience designing and maintaining design systems and component libraries
Advanced visual design skills with attention to typography, color, spacing, and hierarchy
Proven ability to translate regulatory and compliance requirements into clean, usable UI flows
Proficiency with Figma, including Figma AI features and Figma Make
Strong collaboration skills across engineering, product, operations, and compliance teams
Clear communication of design rationale to technical teams and leadership
Curiosity and adaptability toward emerging design technologies and AI-assisted workflows
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience with item valuation, customer onboarding, identity verification, loyalty programs, or payment capture systems
Background designing task-oriented interfaces for non-desk users in high-volume retail environments
Experience with AI-assisted prototyping tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Figma AI
Understanding of stateful prototyping, including focus states, transitions, loading states, and interaction sequences
Experience with prompt engineering for design workflows
Familiarity with voice, conversational, or multimodal interface patterns
Exposure to AI-assisted features with trust, transparency, and override mechanisms
Understanding of computer vision interfaces for retail or checkout use cases
Portfolio demonstrating AI-assisted design iterations and workflow evolution
