Reporting to the Evaluation & Impact Manager, the EMR Training and Support Specialist is accountable for ensuring that the Alex's EMR, the Collaborative Health Record (CHR), is effectively used to support high quality patient care. This includes working to a high degree of autonomy to standardize and optimize workflows, provide users with training and support, collaborate with internal Alex teams, and liaise with key CHR vendor supports to ensure that the CHR is leveraged to its maximum functionality. 

This is a permanent, full-time position. 

What You Will Do 

  • Act as subject matter expert, accountable for maintaining in-depth and up-to-date knowledge on all technical aspects of the EMR.
  • Assess and leverage vendor training material and integrate with in-house custom content to create practical and engaging EMR training curriculum. 
  • Deliver training to all new users and provide refresher training and ongoing support to all users.
  • Leverage technical knowledge to provide leadership and advise all programs and services on EMR system configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Lead design, development, and documentation of operational EMR forms and standardized templates.
  • Mentor CHR superusers.
  • Collaborate with operational, professional practice, and evaluation teams to develop, implement, maintain, document, and troubleshoot standardized EMR workflows and best practices aligned to clinic and organizational processes.
  • Coordinate with and advise evaluation team to ensure that, where applicable, EMR workflows, forms, templates, etc., are aligned with organizational reporting and evaluation requirements.
  • Work with operational, professional practice, and evaluation teams to identify and resolve data quality issues, ensuring accuracy and consistency across programs and services. 
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of EMR system updates and communicate relevant changes to staff.
  • Act as the primary internal contact for EMR troubleshooting and as the key contact for vendor support personnel.
  • Provide support for EMR audit processes to ensure organizational compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned. 

What You Bring 

  • University Degree or College Diploma in health informatics, health information management, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered. 
  • Experience in primary health care considered an asset.
  • At least 3 years of primary care Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience. Experience with the Telus Collaborative Health Record is considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to translate operational needs into EMR workflows.
  • Strong background in supporting and training users on EMR systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Strong group facilitation skills.
  • High degree of critical thinking, self-direction, and judgment.
  • Concern for detail and accuracy.
  • High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Ability to collaborate with others to achieve agreed upon goals.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of autonomy.
  • A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record clearance is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action is preferred.

Work Environment and Hours

  • The Alex Community Health Centre: 2840 – 2 Ave SE, Calgary, AB
  • 1.0 FTE (37.5 hrs/week).
  • Standard hours 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday; some flexibility in schedule may be available. 
  • Continuous periods of sitting, with some standing and walking (sometimes up/down stairwells).
