We are seeking a senior Structural Engineer for a residential development located in the Republic of San Marino. The project involves a hybrid structural system composed of a reinforced concrete substructure and a timber superstructure.
The architectural concept design is complete. Structural elements currently shown in architectural documentation are indicative only and shall be fully redesigned, verified, and engineered by the appointed Structural Engineer.
The appointment requires a technically strong professional capable of delivering a complete, code-compliant structural solution from concept through detailed design and coordinated BIM modeling.
REGULATORY FRAMEWORK – SAN MARINO
All structural design must comply with:
Technical regulations applicable in the Republic of San Marino
Alignment with Italian NTC (Norme Tecniche per le Costruzioni)
Relevant Eurocodes
Seismic provisions applicable to the region
Fire resistance regulations (REI requirements)
Local authority submission standards and documentation requirements
The engineer must have demonstrable experience operating within Italian and Eurocode seismic frameworks compatible with San Marino regulatory alignment.
SCOPE OF STRUCTURAL SERVICES
Structural Concept Design
The Structural Engineer shall:
Develop the complete structural system from foundation to roof
Define foundation strategy based on geotechnical data
Establish structural grid coordination with architecture
Define load paths and structural hierarchy
Propose a compliant lateral stability system
Define timber structural typology (CLT, glulam, hybrid, etc.)
Assess structural feasibility of the architectural design
Identify structural risks and propose mitigation measures
Deliverables include a structural concept report, system diagrams, and design rationale documentation.
Detailed Structural Engineering
The engineer shall perform full structural analysis and design including:
Load Analysis
Permanent and variable actions
Snow and wind loads
Seismic actions
Earth pressures
Construction-stage loading
Reinforced Concrete Design
Foundations
Retaining structures
Structural slabs
Beams and columns
Punching shear checks
Crack control and durability
Serviceability and ultimate limit state verification
Timber Structural Design
Structural walls and floor systems
Roof system
Diaphragm action
Lateral force resisting system
Uplift resistance
Deflection and vibration checks
Seismic detailing
Fire performance integration
Steel Connections
Timber-to-concrete connections
Timber-to-steel connectors
Base plates and hold-down systems
Seismic anchorage
Hidden structural connectors where required
Deliverables include full structural calculations, GA drawings, reinforcement drawings, connection details, technical specifications, and compliance documentation.
BILL OF QUANTITIES
The Structural Engineer shall prepare a structural BOQ including:
Excavation quantities related to structural works
Concrete quantities by element
Reinforcement quantities by weight
Timber quantities by specification
Structural steel quantities
Formwork quantities
Foundation, slab, and wall breakdown
BOQ must be structured, itemized, and suitable for contractor tendering and cost comparison. Quantities extracted from the BIM model are preferred.
BIM REQUIREMENTS
Fully coordinated Revit Structure model
Replacement of conceptual structural placeholders
Structural sheets generated from the model
Coordinated reinforcement detailing
Quantity extraction for BOQ
IFC export if required
Revit proficiency is mandatory.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must demonstrate:
Significant structural design experience
Reinforced concrete and timber structural expertise
Experience in seismic regions
Knowledge of Italian and Eurocode standards
Experience preparing documentation for authority submission
Proficiency in Revit Structure
Preferred experience includes hybrid timber-concrete systems and underground or retaining structures.
Contract duration of 1 to 3 months. with 30 hours per week.
