ABOUT US

Strides Toronto Support Services ("Strides Toronto") Strides Toronto is a multi-service agency supporting infants, children, youth and young adults from birth to age 29, and their families, primarily across east Toronto. We offer community-based, residential and treatment programs—including mental health counselling, autism services, early intervention, day treatment, education, outreach and community support—using a client-centered, evidence-informed approach. Since 2015, Strides Toronto has served as Toronto's Lead Agency for Infant, Child and Youth Mental Health, partnering with 21 core service providers to provide system leadership, citywide planning, coordinated service delivery and program alignment. Strides Toronto also leads initiatives with broader reach, including Help Ahead and the HOPE Strategy across Toronto and One Stop Talk/Parlons Maintenant and the Provincial Youth Outreach Worker Program across Ontario.

ABOUT THE ROLE

These are existing vacancies for three (03) Full-Time Contract Classroom Facilitator 1 (CF1) positions. The CF1 is responsible for working in a classroom to deliver a group-based program focused on developing school-readiness skills (i.e., communication, play, social interactions, functional routines, behavioural self-management, and pre-academic skills). The service is delivered in centre-based and community-based environments, with possibility of telehealth services when needed. 

The Entry to School program supports families with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who are between the ages of 3 to 6 entering school for the first time.  Short Description of the role

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Deliver group-based services focused on developing school-readiness skills to children 3-6 diagnosed with Autism. 
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary professionals including but not limited to SLPs, OTs, daycare, teachers, school staff and the like. 
  • Effectively use ABA teaching strategies such as Reinforcement, Verbal and Physical Prompts, Shaping, Chaining, Modelling and Fading. 
  • Provide assistance to children with toileting, feeding, dressing and other personal care requirements. 
  • Assess individual children's skills, abilities, interests, strengths and needs 
  • Provide daily support to Classroom Facilitator Level 2 and/ or Program Supervisor with various clinical and administrative tasks. 
  • Document service hours in client information system (CIS) for Ministry reporting. 
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with families, care givers, partner agencies, internal team and volunteers. 

THE "MUST HAVES"

The following education, professional memberships and knowledge are a requirement for this role: 

  • A Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Worker from an accredited college or university, or an undergraduate degree or diploma from a recognized university or college in a related field (i.e., social services, psychology, or ABA)
  • Minimum one (1) year working with preschool children (preferably post-graduation).
  • Ability to implement, and evaluate activities and experiences to meet individual and group needs of all children 
  • Ability to manage children with challenging behaviors and communicate effectively with parents in a positive way. 
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies. 
  • Knowledge of program planning and case management for children with development disabilities, including knowledge of atypical development preferred. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Autism Program. 
  • Awareness of the role of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
  • An understanding of anti-black racism, anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health.
  • Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts.

THE 'NICE TO HAVES'

While not required, preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience working with children with ASD
  • Knowledge of the cultural diversity of communities served by the agency
  • Functional computer and client information system knowledge.
  • Fluency in another language(s), including sign language.
