The Evolution: A Canadian Success Story
CanCap is a Canadian success story. We established our reputation as a significant player in the Canadian automotive lending space. Today, that foundation supports a broader ecosystem of financial services operating in the background.
Now, we are changing. We are evolving from a traditional financial institution into a product-led technology company. We are reimagining our operations with the speed and tooling of a modern tech firm.
A note on our current look: We are currently overhauling our entire brand and public presence. If you visit our website today, you will see our history. We are looking for the builders who will architect our future.
The Role:
We are looking for a Senior Engineer to build the foundation that allows our Software and Data teams to move fast—safely.
You will act as a force multiplier for the engineering organization. You will architect the secure, automated "golden paths" that allow our developers to ship code to production and our data engineers to spin up compute clusters without hitting a wall of bureaucracy.
You will sit at the intersection of Cloud-Native Infrastructure, Data Operations, and Security. You will ensure our GCP environment is bulletproof, our containerized workloads scale effortlessly, and our Data Platform runs efficiently.
What You Bring
Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Mastery: You live and breathe Terraform. You architect modules that are reusable, scalable, and secure by default. You treat infrastructure changes with the same rigorous PR process as application code.
Container & Scaling Expertise: You have deep experience orchestrating containerized workloads in production (using Kubernetes, GKE, or Cloud Run). You understand how to design systems that auto-scale to handle bursty traffic without breaking the bank.
Data Platform Fluency: Experience managing Databricks environments (Unity Catalog, Cluster Policies) is our gold standard. However, if you have deep expertise in other modern data platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and are eager to master the Lakehouse architecture, we want to hear from you.
Security-First Mindset (DevSecOps): You understand IAM (specifically on GCP), networking, and encryption. You build security guardrails directly into the CI/CD pipeline so that "secure" is the path of least resistance.
Experience Guide: We prioritize your ability and the complexity of environments you have managed over the exact number of years on your resume. We typically see successful candidates with5+ years of experience in Cloud/DevOps roles.
Your Mission
Architect the Cloud: Design and maintain our GCP landing zone, networking, and identity management systems. You ensure our cloud footprint scales automatically and securely.
Govern the Lakehouse: You will be the primary architect of our Databricks infrastructure. You will manage workspace provisioning, implement role-based access control (RBAC), and optimize compute costs to ensure efficient operation.
Kill the Toil: You will relentlessly automate manual tasks. From onboarding new developers to rotating secrets and patching vulnerabilities, you build the robots that keep the lights on.
Empower Delivery: You own the CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) that deploy our applications and data models. You ensure deployments are boring, predictable, and fast.
How We Work
We believe in clean architecture, thoughtful implementation, and massive leverage.
Developer-Led Tooling: We invest heavily in the tools our engineers actually want to use. We actively experiment with and adopt the latest AI assistants (like Claude, Cursor, Antigravity, and Copilot) to reduce boilerplate and improve velocity.
Golden Paths: We believe the best way to enforce standards is to make the "right way" the easiest way. We build self-service tooling so developers can provision what they need without filing a ticket.
Modern Data Architecture: Since data is the engine of our business, our Platform Engineers are deeply embedded in the data stack. You work closely with Data Engineers to ensure their pipelines have the compute and permissions they need.
Observability: We believe you can't fix what you can't see. We prioritize deep observability (logging, metrics, tracing) to catch issues before our customers do.
Why Join CanCap Now?
Impact: You will be a key architect of our engineering culture. You aren't stepping into a rigid, ossified machine; you are helping to build the engine.
Scale: Your technical decisions will impact a platform managing financial lifecycles for millions of Canadians.
Growth: Because we are evolving so quickly, opportunities for architectural ownership and leadership are abundant.
CanCap is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity. We are committed to building and evolving a team reflecting a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. To be considered for employment, you will need to successfully pass a criminal background check and validate your work experience.
