MacEwan University is seeking to hire a Security Dispatch Operator, for an up to 10-month, full-time replacement term opportunity with our Security Services Department, with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Security Services Supervisor, you will play a vital role in campus safety, serving as the central point of communication for both emergency and non-emergency situations. You will be responsible for receiving, assessing, and prioritizing calls for service; coordinating security responses; monitoring critical alarms and safety systems; and providing timely, accurate information to patrol staff, Facilities teams, and emergency personnel.
Key responsibilities include:
Answering all incoming calls (emergency line, blue phones, elevator phone, etc.) and provides correct information on university policy/procedure;
Recording and documenting all calls and incidents into the Security Services reporting software;
Monitoring all the CCTV cameras and afterhours access by staff, students, contractors, and any other persons;
Distributing keys and access cards;
Maintaining a log of all non-MacEwan repair workers/building trades working on-site;
Reporting monthly statistics on maintenance call outs and equipment failure; and
Providing customer service at the office counter when other personnel are not available. This includes service requests, taking statements, completing forms, and accurately recording found property.
Skills
You will have:
Emergency response and de-escalation skills, with the ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations;
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including excellent active listening and relationship-building abilities;
A service-oriented mindset with the ability to interact professionally and respectfully with diverse stakeholders;
The proven ability to multitask, prioritize, and coordinate multiple activities in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines;
Strong judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to make critical, time-sensitive decisions in emergency situations;
A high level of professionalism, confidentiality, integrity, and ethical judgment, including knowledge of FOIP protocols; and
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and security-related communications and monitoring systems.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Grade 12 diploma.
A minimum of 2 years of customer service experience (preferably through telephone and radio communication).
A Certificate or diploma related to Emergency Communications Management.
Standard First Aid Training with CPR is considered an asset.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Position Requirements
The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost.
This position involves rotating shift work, 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
