Job Description
What is the opportunity?
The Risk Relationship Manager is the primary risk contact for internal partners and underwriters and external sales partners. They are responsible in partnership with the Operations Manager for developing and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external sales partners. Along with the Director and Senior Director of Underwriting, they will aid in the development of a team of Underwriters that will provide consistent quality decisions that align with product and pricing parameters. This senior risk leadership role has significant Living Benefits and/or Life authority limits.
What will you do?
Provide direct real time access and expertise for risk related underwriting inquiries on pending applications, final decisions and preliminary inquiries
Facilitate risk presentations for sales partners as required
Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback through Underwriter 1X1 and quarterly documented performance reviews in partnership with the Director, Living Benefits and Underwriting Operations Manager to a designated team of Underwriters
Partner with Reinsurer on complex files to obtain the best offer for our applicants that is in line with our pricing assumptions
Partner with Corporate Underwriting and GRM divisions to ensure risk assessments and decisions are within the prescribed RBC Insurance philosophy and guidelines using the approved resources and manuals
Carry a reduced caseload and support ad-hoc projects ad initiatives as needed
Be a change agent by challenging the status quo and moving the business forward
What will you need to succeed?
Must have
Minimum 15 years of Underwriting experience – Life, Living Benefits or both
Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role
Minimum approval limit of $2,000,000 Critical Illness and $20,000,000 Life
University degree and related industry designations (FLMI, FALU, CHS)
Demonstrated experience and knowledge regarding Life and Health insurance
Need for conceptual thinking, transformational insight and innovation
Nice to have
Ability to write and speak in French is considered an asset
Experience in change management
Track record in leading high-achieving teams
Knowledge of insurance operations management and oversight

Compensation for this position (including salary and discretionary/variable payments) will be determined by factors, including but not limited to candidate's experience, skills, registration status, performance, individual goals, market conditions, and business needs.
Pay Range
The expected pay range for this position is:
$90, $140,000.00
