POSITION OVERVIEW:

ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking a General Labourer to be based out of our Grande Prairie, Alberta location. This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing, sorting, cutting, and packaging non-ferrous metals for storage in the warehouse and for transport out of the yard.

Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming metals from customers and assist with unloading as required.
  • Assess, identify, and weigh various types and grades of non-ferrous metals.
  • Operate the table shear and vertical baler safely and efficiently.
  • Perform parts running duties and service battery totes throughout Grande Prairie.
  • Maximize scrap load value by sorting, high-grading, and segregating materials appropriately.
  • Maintain property, facilities, and equipment in clean, safe, and good working order.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to ensure professional and courteous service.
  • Cut oversized or overly thick metal pieces into smaller, marketable materials.
  • Load and unload trailers using a forklift in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Drain fluids from vehicles and prepare units for baling.
  • Dismantle scrap materials and extract high-value metals.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions (rain or shine).
  • Knowledge of general safety practices and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with customers and team members.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Experience sorting and allocating non-ferrous metals, preferably in a busy, high-volume scrap yard, is considered an asset; however, we are willing to train the right candidate.
  • Strong knowledge of non-ferrous metal types and grades, with the ability to assess and allocate most scrap through visual inspection, is an asset.
  • Experience operating a forklift or skid steer is considered an asset.
  • IMPORTANT:

    We frequently operate on and service federally regulated customers that require regular and random drug and alcohol screening (including suppliers and contractors).  As such, you will also be subject to an initial and then ongoing random drug and alcohol screening as a condition of your employment.
