About the Position:
We are looking for a Manager, Property Services to join our team at Elgin Mills Cemetery.
The successful candidate will be required to:
Property Management
- Ensuring a high standard of customer service through effective management of employees and grounds, within corporate standards, and interaction with the Manager, Cemetery Services and Cemetery Services Coordinators.
- Ensuring that appropriate staff, supplies and equipment are available to complete major ground projects, through developing an annual business plan, yearly budget and operating within it.
- Ensuring that new land developments are approved, and that on-site contractors complete work as specified.
- Ensuring that health and safety legislation is followed, through monitoring and supervising employees.
- Management of the security systems. They are the contact for security companies, pass cards, keys and codes.
- Ensuring the maintenance of all cemetery buildings, including all furniture, walls and fences.
Administration
- Ensure payroll related documents are properly approved and all policies and procedures are followed.
- Ensures that the property is operating within the approved budget by generating and submitting accurate and timely accounting and other statistical information to Head Office departments who provides reports for the Manager's analysis.
- Ensures the property operates in a financially sound manner by controlling expenses to budget guidelines and recommending any items outside of the budget that are required to maintain service standards.
- Provides the Director, Property Services, with an annual review of all aspects of the property.
Planning & Marketing
- Ensures that the service level of the property is maintained through projecting short-term and medium-term staffing requirements and communicating this to the Director, Property Services.
- Ensures that the organization's mission is conveyed to the community and that the community is aware of the services offered by Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries, by maintaining a profile through public speaking, volunteer community work, assisting with the organization of special events at the cemeteries, and other public relations activities.
- Contributes to the organization's knowledge of the industry, through maintaining on going relations with individuals and organization in similar business within the community.
People Management
- Ensure the site is operating at an acceptable level of service through hiring, developing, disciplining and motivating employees.
- Motivate employees through regular performance reviews and recommending compensation for the employees that reflects their performance within the position.
- Ensure that all employees are treated fairly and within the policy guidelines.
- Ensure that all employees are provided with the necessary information, resources and tools to provide professional service.
- Ensure that all employees are considered when development opportunities emerge.
Other
- Other sundry project, and tasks as assigned by Director, Property Services.
Qualifications:
- Degree / Diploma / Certificate in Horticulture, Turf Management or other related disciplines; or equivalent combination of work experience, training and education.
- At least three years' experience in a comparable role.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
- A valid Ontario "G" driver's licence with a clean driver's abstract.
- Knowledge of turf management, fertilizing, and general tree, shrub and plant maintenance. Assistance is provided through the horticultural and arboricultural staff.
- Demonstrated experience to develop, direct and implement a high standard of service in cemetery maintenance and operations by making use of strong management and leadership skills complemented by a resourceful and results-oriented mindset. Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge and understanding of maintenance equipment and mechanical aptitude for same.
- Knowledge of excavation equipment is an asset.
- A thorough knowledge of the operations of the cemetery, coupled with some general product and services knowledge.
- A good working knowledge of the Cemetery By-laws, and the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act (FBCSA).
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Health & Safety Act and applicable regulations as it relates to the position
- A thorough knowledge and understanding of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics, 365 Business Central and ADP Workforce Now is an asset.
- Intermediate proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook).
