The Asset Geologist leads and provides technical oversight for geological data collection and evaluation during Freeze Well (diamond) and ISR (mud-rotary) drilling at the Wheeler River Operation. When drilling is inactive, the role supports wellfield operations, long-term development planning, and future drilling programs for the Phoenix Deposit.

Reporting to the Wellfield Manager, the Asset Geologist promotes a strong safety culture while overseeing drill programs, database management, QAQC, and production tracking. Responsibilities include short- and medium-term drill scheduling, ensuring compliance with wellfield design, upgrading grade control models, optimizing production, and reconciling mining results. The role also manages sampling programs, validates production data, coordinates with other departments to optimize mine-to mill grade, and oversees personnel, safety coordination, and training.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support execution of freeze and wellfield drilling and completion programs in accordance with sampling, probing, and design criteria.
  • Monitor geological horizons while drilling; completion/stimulation intervals.
  • Log and manage mineralized core, samples, and assays; utilize drilling data to confirm targets and identify amounts.
  • Provide technical support to the Wellfield Manager, drilling supervisors, and crews, including troubleshooting and QA/QC oversight.
  • Contribute to drilling and completions program design, wellfield development, planning, and updates to grade control models and production forecasts.
  • Prepare and review engineering documents, drawings, change notices, procedures, and production designs.
  • Liaise with site and corporate technical teams to support wellfield operations and production reporting.
  • Provide geological input on well performance, workovers, and stimulation activities.
  • Perform inspections on job/task observations to ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

The Asset Geologist brings hands-on wellsite geological experience with both mud-rotary and diamond drilling techniques. As a detail-oriented team player who excels in dynamic environments, the Asset Geologist ensures quality and technical requirements are met while drilling operations are occurring, while adhering to environmental regulations and operational standards. Additional qualifications and attributes include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, or Geological Engineering.
  • A minimum of 3+ years in field geology with strong geological and structural mapping skills from mineral exploration, or mine geology background.
  • Solid proficiency with office productivity software, including Microsoft Office Suite, accompanied by a willingness to learn and use other technologies and software as required.
  • Proficiency with SAP, Computerized Maintenance Management (CMMS) and SCADA systems would be an asset.
  • Willingness and ability to train and mentor wellsite geologists and geological technicians.
