Job Description Design Release Engineer (DRE) - Electronic Module Development Hybrid Role Join a dynamic team as a Design Release Engineer, where your talents will drive the evolution of cutting-edge automotive technologies. In this crucial position, you will lead the charge in defining project requirements and executing the designs in collaboration with both GM and our supplier hardware engineering teams, as well as GM software engineering experts. Your leadership will be vital in testing and validation, issue analysis, troubleshooting, and steering engineering projects focused on enhancing our SDV2.0 Aggregator and Extender. Utilize your creativity and strategic problem-solving skills to analyze data and propose effective solutions. As a leader, you'll direct a small team that targets specific engineering objectives while aligning our solutions with essential business goals. Key Responsibilities Define specifications and oversee the release process for Aggregator and Extender modules while ensuring compliance with all requirements. Manage component packaging and mounting across diverse vehicle programs. Develop detailed component hardware and software timing plans to meet program demands and deadlines. Lead a cross-functional Product Development Team (PDT) to facilitate the integration of products into vehicles. Ensure all vehicle Program Imperatives, such as cost, investment, mass, and engineering content, are fulfilled for the components developed. Create and approve Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to facilitate component and fastener releases. Assess design alternatives and promptly respond to Change Requests (CRs). Act as a Validation Engineer by developing and executing validation plans for components that meet program imperatives. Participate in Design, Peer, and Quality audits following the Vehicle Development Process (VDP). Review and approve Owner/Service Manual and Customer Information Card content for accuracy. Approve electrical test plans and specific diagnostic tool requirements for new projects. Support vehicle integration for both pre-production and production models. Collaborate with the Senior System Safety Engineer to develop a comprehensive system safety plan for the Aggregator and Extender in line with GM's Safety Engineering Process. Lead and resolve design and development issues, analyze ECU warranty data, and provide updates to Engineering and Vehicle Team leadership. Work within a Scaled Agile product delivery team, comprising cross-functional peers and component supplier engineers, to prioritize and refine component features continuously. Qualifications Proficiency in vehicle serial data communications (Ethernet, CAN, LIN, E-Fuse). Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science. Minimum of 5 years of experience with microprocessor-based controllers (MCUs) in automotive electrical systems. Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective collaboration. Demonstrated technical and professional expertise in engineering. Exceptional written and verbal communication competencies. Excellent problem-solving skills in complex system scenarios. Ability to influence others and operate independently. Desired Skills Master's Degree in Engineering is an advantage. Extensive knowledge of Electronic Hardware and Circuit Design. Strong Program Management abilities. Experience with automotive product release and specification processes is preferred. Understanding of microcontroller architectures and programming. In-depth knowledge of hardware design and potential failure modes. Proficient in crafting and understanding software/hardware requirements. Familiarity with software and hardware verification/validation processes. Awareness of automotive EMC requirements. Experience with System and Component level DFMEAs is preferred.
