Our busy logistics center in Madison, Wisconsin, is looking for a meticulous and organized Shipping Clerk to join our team. As a Shipping Clerk, you will be responsible for ensuring that all outgoing shipments are accurately prepared, documented, and dispatched in a timely manner. This role is crucial to our customer satisfaction and involves coordinating with carriers, preparing shipping labels, and maintaining shipment records. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to safety in a fast-paced warehouse environment. You will be an integral part of our daily logistics operations.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare outgoing shipments by accurately picking, packing, and labeling items according to customer orders and shipping requirements.
- Verify that all items being shipped match the order documentation.
- Schedule and coordinate with shipping carriers (e.g., FedEx, UPS, LTL) for pickup of outgoing freight.
- Generate shipping labels and necessary documentation, such as bills of lading and customs forms.
- Maintain accurate shipping records and update the warehouse management system (WMS) with shipment details.
- Inspect outgoing packages for damage or defects before shipment.
- Ensure the shipping dock area is clean, organized, and safe, adhering to all safety regulations.
- Properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
- Follow safe lifting procedures when handling packages and materials.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and carriers to resolve shipping issues.
- Assist with inventory counts and other warehouse duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a shipping or logistics role is preferred.
- Familiarity with shipping software and carrier portals.
- Proficiency in using computer systems and WMS.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and order fulfillment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of safety protocols, including PPE and lifting techniques.
