About Us:
We are a stealth-mode startup building a next-generation commercial intelligence platform for upscale hotels. Our vision is to combine competitive data tracking with AI-powered insights to help hoteliers increase direct bookings and optimize revenue. We are not building another dashboard; we are building a service that feels like a light-touch consultant but is powered by intelligent automation. We are a small, focused team of non-technical founders with deep domain expertise in hospitality and revenue management. We are now seeking our first and lead technical hire to take ownership of the entire development effort. This is a ground-floor opportunity with significant autonomy and the potential to grow into a founding technical partner role with equity.

The Role
You will be our sole technical lead, responsible for architecting and building the initial BETA version of our platform from the ground up. This is not a ticket-taking role; you will define the technology stack, make architectural decisions, and own the codebase entirely. You will report directly to the founding team (non-technical) and must be comfortable translating product vision into technical execution with minimal hand-holding.
Your core responsibilities include:
1. Technology Selection: Choosing the appropriate stack you recommend) and justifying your choices to the founding team.
2. Data Pipeline Architecture: Building reliable services to fetch and store data from third-party APIs (Amadeus, Google Places, SEMrush, etc.).
3. Database Design: Modeling time-series hotel data (pricing, occupancy, rankings) for analytical querying.
4. Core API Layer: Developing the backend services that serve processed data to the frontend.
5. 4-Quadrant Dashboard: Creating the main user interface where hoteliers visualize their competitive position through custom scatter plots and strategic quadrants.
6. Agentic Prototype: Implementing a simple natural language interface that allows users to ask questions about their data (a miniature version of our long-term AI vision).
7. Documentation & Handover: Ensuring the system is well-documented so the founding team can understand and maintain it over time.
You will have responsibility to oversee the technical roadmap, codebase, and deployment.
You will be expected to proactively communicate progress, flag risks, and propose solutions—not wait for instructions.

Must-Have Skills & Experience:
1. Full-Stack Product Builder: You have built and deployed at least one complete web application from scratch (ideally a B2B SaaS product). You are comfortable owning both frontend and backend.
2. API Integration Expert: Proven experience integrating third-party REST/GraphQL APIs. You understand authentication, rate limiting, error handling, and building resilient data pipelines.
3. Database Design Proficiency: Strong SQL skills (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar). You can design schemas for analytical workloads and write efficient queries.
4. Data Visualization Experience: You have built custom charts and graphs (using libraries like Recharts, Victory, D3, , or similar) and understand how to present complex data to non-technical users.
5. Cloud Deployment Skills: You can deploy applications to AWS, GCP, Heroku, Render, or similar platforms. You understand environment variables, deployment workflows, and basic monitoring.
6. Async Communication Mastery: You are an excellent written communicator. You can explain technical decisions, document your work, and provide status updates without requiring synchronous meetings. You are comfortable using tools like Slack, Notion, and Loom for async collaboration.
7. Autonomous & Self-Directed: You thrive when given a high-level goal ("build a dashboard that shows X") and can figure out the implementation details yourself. You do not need micromanagement.
8. Product Instinct: You care about the user experience and can contribute ideas to improve the product, not just execute specs.

Strong Preferences (The "Force Multiplier" Indicators):
1. Previous experience as a first engineering hire or founding engineer at an early-stage startup.
2. Experience with the travel/hospitality industry or competitive intelligence platforms.
3. Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (BullMQ, Celery, Prefect, Airflow).
4. Experience building natural language interfaces or simple AI/chatbot features.
5. A portfolio or GitHub that demonstrates data-heavy applications you've built and owned end-to-end.
6. Based in a time zone that allows for some occasional overlap with Asia or US (but not required daily).

Contract duration of 3 to 6 months. with 40 hours per week.
