Implement fully functional GA4 ecommerce tracking via Google Tag Manager for our Shopify store.
We need:
• Accurate revenue tracking
• Item-level ecommerce data
• Clean funnel visibility (product → cart → checkout → purchase)
• No duplicate tracking
• Clear documentation
This must be production-ready and verified.
Scope of Work
Google Tag Manager Setup
• Create GTM container (if not already existing)
• Install GTM head + body scripts correctly in Shopify theme
• Confirm GTM fires on all pages
• Publish container properly

GA4 Configuration
• Create GA4 property (if needed)
• Install GA4 via GTM (not Shopify native only)
• Enable enhanced measurement
• Prevent duplicate pageviews
• Disable overlapping native GA4 tracking (if required)

Enhanced Ecommerce Events (Required)
The following events must fire correctly with item-level data:
• view_item
• add_to_cart
• begin_checkout
• purchase
We are on Shopify Standard (no access).

Required Event Parameters
Each ecommerce event must pass:
• currency
• value
• items array
Each item must include:
• item_id
• item_name
• item_category
• price
• quantity
Revenue must match Shopify within ±1%.

Data Layer Validation
You must:
• Confirm Shopify dataLayer pushes ecommerce events
• Map data layer variables in GTM
• Create variables for:
• ecommerce.currency


Provide screenshots from:
• GTM Preview mode
• GA4 DebugView

Purchase Event Validation
Since we are on Shopify Standard:
• Confirm purchase event fires on Order Status page
• If required, install GTM snippet in:
Settings → Checkout → Order Status Page → Additional Scripts
No duplicate purchase events allowed.

Funnel Configuration in GA4
Create and save a Funnel Exploration titled:
"Core Ecommerce Funnel"
Steps:
1. view_item
2. add_to_cart
3. begin_checkout
4. purchase
Provide screenshot confirmation.

Custom GA4 Reports
Create reports showing:
• Revenue by source / medium
• Conversion rate by device
• Add-to-cart rate
• Checkout start rate
• Checkout completion rate
• AOV by source

UTM Governance Documentation
Provide documentation outlining:
Standard naming conventions for:
• utm_source
• utm_medium
• utm_campaign
Ensure GA4 captures and reports UTMs correctly.

Required Deliverables
• GTM container access
• GA4 property access
• Written documentation of setup
• Screenshot proof of event validation
• Test transaction confirmation
• Loom video walkthrough explaining the implementation
About Us
We are a premium Canadian ecommerce brand selling:
• Apparel fabrics (swim, athletic, apparel)
• Curated sewing kits
• Digital sewing patterns
• Physical + digital mixed carts
Average order value is ~$100+.
We need clean ecommerce tracking to properly analyze funnel performance before scaling paid traffic.
This is a technical implementation project — not ad management.

Out of Scope
• Google Ads management
• Meta Pixel
• Server-side tracking
• Shopify Plus checkout customization

Important Clarification
We sell:
• Physical goods
• Digital patterns
• Mixed carts
Tracking must work correctly for digital-only purchases and mixed purchases.
Refund events must not double count revenue.
