Role:

The EAFWR Summer Program is a summer experience for people who have disabilities ages 13 and up.  It consists of 5 uniquely themed weeks of day program, followed by 2 weeks of overnight summer retreat in a rural setting. Reporting to the On-Site Summer Program Director, Summer Program Leaders will provide direct support to camp participants (both youth and adult-aged).

Qualifications: 
  • Enrolled in a post-secondary degree or diploma program in the social science field or relevant experience
  • Knowledge of and interest in the Extend-A-Family Summer Program
  •  "Camp" experience or experience in other group organizing
  • Direct experience working with individuals who have a developmental and/or physical disability
  • Direct experience working in a day program or camp setting (virtual programming included)
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, creativity and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to work as an effective team member
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification

Hours and Pay:

Up to 37.5 hours per week from June 12, 2026, until August 7, 2026

  • 8:30am - 4:00pm Monday to Friday (+Thursday Staff Meeting: 4:00-6:30pm)
  • $20.48 per hour plus 6% vacation pay
Responsibilities and Functions:

Reporting to the On-Site Summer Program Director, the Summer Program Leaders will:

  • Attend staff training
  • Assist with the development and planning of the program, incorporating weekly themes and ages/needs of the participants
  • Lead and supervise participants while on weekly trips
  • Utilize problem-solving skills and conflict management skills when required
  • Ensure the supervision and safety of all participants at all times
  • Maintain open and honest communication with On-Site Summer Program Director regarding requests, issues and/or needs
  • Report all emergencies or concerns directly to On-Site Summer Program Director in a timely fashion
  • Complete necessary paperwork according to Extend-A-Family policies and procedures (eg. Unusual incident report, WSIB report, etc.)
  • Participate in a performance review process (mid-summer and end of summer)
  • Participate in a program evaluation at the end of summer (Strengths of program, recommendations for next year, etc.)
  • Fill out ADP timecards, submit mileage and expenses on a bi-weekly basis to On-Site Summer Program Director
  • Ensure that all facilities/resources used by the program are respected and well-maintained 
  • To represent self in a mature, responsible fashion to parents and public at all times
  • Other duties as assigned
