Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Project Management Manager, the Structural Application Engineer handles highly complex technical requests related to large-scale projects. This individual is involved throughout the life cycle of the project and acts as a technical expert. Responsibilities include validating installation compliance and sealing drawings under their supervision. The role also involves developing custom tools, performing engineering calculations, and contributing to technical training content.
Main collaborators:
Internal: Production, Design, Customer Service, Estimating, Project Management, Sales Representatives
External: Architects, External Engineers, Specialized Contractors
Key Responsibilities
Design functional architectural assembly details that comply with building code requirements
Design structural rooms/enclosures that meet various client-imposed design constraints
Seal plans to ensure structural and functional compliance of Norbec products
Perform various engineering calculations
Participate in test bench setups and prototype assembly
Contribute to early-stage innovation efforts
Ensure all developed solutions and products comply with applicable building codes (CNBC / IBC)
Maintain up-to-date knowledge relevant to the role and field
Conduct technical and strategic technology watch
Participate in product design review meetings
Answer technical questions using available engineering tools
Develop calculation tools to accelerate technical support request handling
Create training materials to support knowledge sharing and continuity across the organization
Deliver technical product and application training sessions
Develop technical content and documentation
Conduct installation site inspections and report findings in collaboration with the sales team
Ensure occupant safety in all developed solutions/products
Ensure product performance is aligned with company values
Prepare thermal simulations
Coordinate the development and sealing of plans with external engineering firms (in other provinces and U.S. states)
Education and Experience Required
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or equivalent
Member in good standing with the OIQ (Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec)
Minimum 5 years of relevant technical experience
Experience in the construction industry
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of plan and specification reading
Proficiency in AutoCAD
Strong computer literacy
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
Familiarity with Jira, SharePoint, and Epicor (assets)
Advanced bilingualism (French and English)
