Position Summary
As the Summer Camp Assistant Director, you serve as the Camp Director's primary operational support throughout the summer camp season. You are responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and implementation of high-quality summer camp programming for children ages 3–16. Programming must be engaging, developmentally appropriate, and safe, and delivered with integrity, pride, and a commitment to Jewish values and principles.

What we needProgram & Operations ManagementAssist in developing and supervising engaging, age-appropriate programs aligned with Jewish culture and values.
Ensure all activities, field trips, and guest programs run smoothly and within budget.
Maintain accurate records, including camper health and safety information.
Oversee the preparation and distribution of medical forms and first aid kits.
Coordinate inter-programming with other JCC departments and specialty camps.
Promote Camp Shalom through social media, emails, and surveys.
Assist in planning and facilitating staff training and daily camp meetings.
Support staff in program execution and ensure they are well-prepared.
Foster a positive and energetic team culture.
Conduct mid-summer and end-of-summer staff evaluations.
Organize staff social events.
Communicate daily with parents regarding camp activities and camper well-being.
Address concerns, incidents, and medical issues professionally.
Work with the JCC Inclusion Department to support campers with extra needs.
Ensure compliance with health and safety policies, including emergency procedures.
Monitor camper well-being, hydration, and dietary guidelines.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of camp spaces and equipment.
Assist with camp cleanup, inventory, and organization.
Compile key documents, evaluations, and recommendations for the following year.

Relevant tasks related to camp as assigned
Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a camp, childcare, youth programming, or recreational leadership role, preferably in a supervisory or coordination capacity.
Demonstrated experience planning and delivering age-appropriate programming for children and/or youth.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise, mentor, and support seasonal staff in a fast-paced environment.
Experience working with families and children with diverse needs, including collaboration with inclusion or support services (asset).
Knowledge of health, safety, and risk management practices in a camp or childcare setting.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage respectfully with campers, families, staff, and partners.
Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage schedules, documentation, and multiple priorities simultaneously.
Comfortable using technology for communication and administration (email, databases, social media platforms).
Alignment with and appreciation for Jewish values, culture, and community-based programming (experience in a Jewish camp or community setting is an asset).
Current or willingness to obtain First Aid and CPR certification prior to the start of camp.
Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check required once hired.
