Novarc Technologies is looking for an experienced QA/QC Welding Engineering Lead to lead our in-shop welding quality, robotic welding validation, and inspection activities. This role combines people leadership, technical authority, and hands-on inspection to guide a small but very fast-paced, active robotic welding QA team.

Summary: As a Senior QA/QC Welding Engineering Lead you will be the primary authority on weld quality and system-level testing, ensuring all robotic cells and welding systems meet rigorous engineering, regulatory, and customer requirements. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who can design complex test strategies at the system level while mentoring a technical team in a high-innovation environment.

Position: Full-time, on-site

Schedule: Monday through Friday

Travel: Occasional weekend travel (10–15% overall) required for installations, inspections, or customer support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  People Leadership & Team Management
    • Lead and mentor a small, high-performance robotic welding QA team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, speed, and continuous improvement.

    • Manage team workflows, resource allocation, and professional development to keep pace with an active and rapidly evolving production environment.

    • Serve as the senior technical authority, providing direction during customer visits, FATs, and quality reviews.

  •  System-Level Test Management & Engineering
    • Design and implement comprehensive system-level testing strategies for robotic welding cells, ensuring seamless integration between hardware, software, and welding processes.

    • Lead the development of automated quality verification systems and staged quality approvals.

    • Collaborate with AI, Vision, and Sensor teams to validate laser-based and vision-based weld measurement systems at the system level.

  • QA/QC Responsibilities & Technical Authority
    • Lead the development of welding quality checks, acceptance criteria, and inspection workflows.

    • Develop and maintain QA/QC documentation, NCR workflows, and FAT procedures.

    • Create and improve ITPs, ensuring alignment with welding recipes and WPS/WPDS.

    • Welding Inspection & Process Optimization

    • Lead welding inspections (VT, PT, MT, UT, RT) and ensure compliance with ASME, CSA, AWS, and API standards.

    • Conduct root-cause analyses for weld issues and implement corrective/preventive actions.

    • Develop and qualify GMAW & GTAW processes for robotic and automated applications.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma or degree in Welding Technology, Welding Engineering, or Metallurgy.

  • 7+ years of experience in welding technology and QA/QC, with a proven track record in people management.

  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute tests for complex robotic or automated systems.

  • Strong hands-on welding, inspection, and process validation skills.

  • CWI and CWB Welding Inspector Level 2 are required.

  •  Ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high quality standards.

  • Deep understanding of how robotic components, AI logic, and welding parameters interact at a system level.

  • Excellent skills for collaborating with cross-functional Engineering, AI, and Data Science teams.

Nice to have:

  • Certification in robotic welding or similar disciplines is a plus.

  •  CWB Level 3 is a strong asset.
