Position Title : Coordinator, Camp Life
Reports To : Director, National Camp Programs
I. Scope and summary of primary responsibilities
Reporting to the General Manager, CNIB Lake Joe, this role is responsible for supporting the seasonal operations for the camp.
The Coordinator, Camp Life is responsible for supporting the daily rhythm, culture, and community experience of CNIB Lake Joe. This role works closely with the Supervisor, Camp Programs, to implement camp programming, oversee camper care, and support staff in delivering safe, inclusive, and engaging experiences.
During the operating season (spring to fall), the coordinator will be required to stay onsite where room and board will be provided.
II. Essential functions
Support the creation of a positive, inclusive, and engaging camp environment. Address low-level camper needs, concerns, homesickness, and behavioural challenges in collaboration with program staff and Wellness team. Assist camp leadership to monitor camper groups to ensure high-quality supervision and community building. Act as a resource for staff in the planning and delivery of camp programs and special events. Provide coaching and guidance to counsellors throughout daily operations. Support staff with behaviour management strategies, conflict resolution, and communication with campers. Facilitate check-ins, feedback loops, and day-to-day supervision to maintain staff readiness and morale. Help onboard and train staff on routines, expectations, and camp culture. Assist with the development of daily camp schedules and support staff in daily operations, routines, and camper engagement strategies. Support staff onboarding, orientation, and training. Collaborates closely with program staff, volunteers, and wellness teams to ensure daily operations run smoothly. Support schedule updates and camp-wide communications as required. Respond to operational issues promptly and professionally. Ensure adherence to camp safety policies, supervision ratios, and emergency protocols as outlined by the Ontario Camps Association (OCA), Public Health, and Lifesaving Society. Immediately and effectively inform management of any risks to the health, safety or wellbeing of our participants, staff, and volunteers or to our programs, equipment, and facilities Assist with incident reports, documentation, and follow-up. Support the development or revision of relevant operational policies and procedures and assist with program evaluation. Promote a culture of safety awareness among staff and campers. Support communication with families regarding camper needs, minor incidents, or behavioural updates. Represent CNIB's values and uphold professional, respectful communication. III. Qualifications
Education and Certifications Experience with behavior support, conflict resolution, or child development.
Post-secondary education in recreation, education, social work, child & youth care, or a related field. Current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" Current Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required. Experience and Qualifications Understanding of inclusive practices and supporting campers with diverse needs. Experience working in not-for-profit, in the field of sight loss desired. Experience working in a camp or youth-focused environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to support children and youth with empathy, patience, and professionalism. Leadership experience, ideally in a camp, school, recreation, or community setting. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Knowledge of accessibility standards and practices is an asset. Work environment
Live on-site during operating season (room & board provided). Willingness to work flexible hours, live on site (spring-fall) to provide on call coverage (respond to any emergencies) and work standard camp hours.
