Overview Join PNNL and become a key player in our AI and Data Analytics Division within the National Security Directorate. We specialize in innovative computational solutions to tackle complex data challenges, integrating advanced technologies and software to enhance national security, energy, and scientific research. We invite motivated undergraduate students eager to address critical national issues using statistical, mathematical, and computational techniques. As an intern, you will engage in groundbreaking work that directly contributes to the security and strength of our nation, developing complex code, participating in cyber competitions, and creating innovative data visualizations. This internship presents an opportunity for cohort sessions starting in May or June 2026. Focus Areas:
During your internship, you can specialize in one of the following technical groups: Math, Stats, and Data Science:
Utilize mathematical modeling, computational statistics, and uncertainty quantification to resolve intricate challenges across various domains. Applied AI Systems:
Develop robust models to interpret vast amounts of data, aiding decision-making for operational environments. Foundational Data Science:
Innovate algorithms and tools to transform large datasets into actionable insights for decision-making processes. Software Engineering & Architectures:
Create scalable, cloud-first solutions using industry best practices in software development, including Agile methodologies. Human Centered Computing:
Fuse interactive visualizations with automated analysis techniques to empower users in deriving insights from complex data. Operational Readiness & Enablement:
Lead in developing high-quality solutions that manage data pipelines and analytics, focusing on cloud computing and software testing. This internship is located in Richland or Seattle, WA, with a preference for on-site work, although remote arrangements may be considered under special circumstances. Preferred Qualifications: Fields of interest: Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, Cloud Computing, and more. This position requires U.S. Citizenship due to access to sensitive systems and information.
