The successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location in Milford, MI at least three times a week or as dictated by business needs. The Role: The Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls (VMEC) team is looking for a Scrum Leader to join the Agile Release Train (ART) focused on vehicle states and modes, contributing to the development of critical drive mode requirements and controls software. This is an exciting opportunity to impact GM vehicles and enhance the customer experience with features that are in high demand! We are searching for imaginative, highly motivated, and detail-oriented individuals with a passion for controls and software development. The ideal candidate will lead a scrum team of 10-15 engineers, leveraging the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) to design and implement innovative software solutions and drive the growth of controls methods, keeping General Motors at the technological forefront. You will manage the team's workload, facilitate collaboration across multiple business areas, and guide the collective work output and growth of the team. What You'll Do: Act as the servant leader and agile coach for the Scrum Team, driving a positive and productive team culture. Split your time between software development using Embedded C and performing Scrum Lead responsibilities. Plan and manage the team's capacity, including collaboration with Software Engineers, Controls Design Engineers, and Quality Assurance Engineers. Facilitate Scrum meetings such as daily stand-ups, iteration planning, reviews, and retrospectives. Engage in ART ceremonies and present team progress during System Demos and Program Increment (PI) Planning. Proactively escalate issues when necessary, after exhausting internal resolution efforts. Collaborate with Release Train Engineers, SAFe Program Consultants, and other Scrum Leads to align on metrics and processes. Encourage continuous improvement through education and innovation during scrum team activities. Work with ART program management to coordinate workload management and team capacity. Support the team in estimating Story Points and managing both Enabler and Technical Debt features. Foster a spirit of cooperation within the scrum team, emphasizing shared ownership of deliverables. Engage daily with the team to ensure high-quality and timely project deliveries. Continuously challenge the team's traditional development practices to enhance quality, efficiency, and velocity. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications): Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields. 5+ years of experience in embedded software development. Proven ability to set and balance priorities efficiently. Skilled in facilitating meetings and fostering team collaboration. Strong capability to manage change and function effectively within dynamic environments. In-depth understanding of GM Vehicle Development Process. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects autonomously. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with effective presentation abilities. Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills for collaboration across varying organizational levels. Ability to maintain high integrity and deal effectively with ambiguity; self-directed initiative is key. Consistently demonstrates innovative thinking with a focus on customer satisfaction. What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications): Master's degree in relevant engineering disciplines. 8+ years of experience in embedded software development. Expertise in algorithm/software development and vehicle control calibration. Knowledge of Electrification technologies. Proficiency in C or C++ and in model-based development tools like MATLAB/Simulink. SAFe Scrum Lead or Product Owner certification. Experience with project management tools such as Jira and Jira Align.
