Position Summary
The Grounds Maintenance position is responsible for a variety of job duties on property at Sonora Resort to keep the grounds, gardens, lawns and pools in excellent condition for our guests. This role will cycle through the various tasks during each shift at the resort. They are responsible for testing, cleaning and maintaining our pools and hot tubs, refuse and recycling collection and disposal, lawn care and other gardening or landscaping projects as provided by the Head Gardener and Maintenance Managers.
Job Duties
- Demonstrate desired service behaviors in accordance with Relais and Chateaux expectations.
- Refuse and recycling management including systematic garbage collection across resort.
- Operating incinerator and completing burn cycles. Sorting and preparing recycling to be shipped off island to appropriate recycling depots.
- Test water chemistry of all hot tubs and pools on site, completing accurate daily maintenance records.
- Vacuuming and skimming of pools and hot tubs, as well as cleaning surrounding pool decks.
- Lawn mowing, weed eating and hedge trimming in large outdoor areas.
- Maintaining garden beds; weeding, raking, pruning and clean up.
- Assist Gardening team with small landscaping projects as required.
- Work with Health & Safety Officer to ensure walking trails are safe and accessible for guests.
- Keep garden and landscape areas free of garbage / debris.
- Assist the dock team with bi-weekly deliveries of food, cargo and resort supplies.
- Assist maintenance or dock crew as requested.
- Maintain tools and ensure equipment is in good order.
- Ensure effective working relationships and clear communication is maintained with all colleagues, managers and other departments.
- Ensure that all equipment, fixtures, and furniture of the department are kept in the best repair possible and are used in a safe and proper manner in coordination with the Maintenance Manager.
- Drive small electric vehicles around the resort.
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada and fluent in English. Second languages are an asset.
- Basic understanding of the operations of gardening and horticulture; experience in a live-in resort environment is preferred.
- Previous experience with pool maintenance and testing an asset, though training will be provided.
- Able to safely operate power equipment such as line trimmers, hedge trimmers, chain saws and blowers an asset.
- High School Diploma required. Any additional education or experience in the Hospitality, Tourism, or related fields would be an asset.
- Must be capable of physical aspects of the job; handling heavy loads, combination of sitting, walking, standing for extended periods of time, bending, crouching, kneeling.
- Must be fluent in English, second language an asset.
- First Aid & AED certificates are an asset.
- Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team or independently with minimum supervision.
