Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The RCA assist and support residents with the activities of daily living that they are unable to perform without some level of assistance, while consistently promoting their independence and autonomy. The RCA assists with personal care, health maintenance, and social activities, according to each resident's needs and preferences. All duties are performed within the RCA scope of practice and in alignment with the philosophy and standards of Southview Heights and Terrace.
Accountabilities
The RCA provides care for the residents who require support with their personal care services and performs delegated tasks for which they have received appropriate training.
Provides Support And Assistance With
Medication reminder and/or administration of medication.
Follows Personal Care Plans (PSP) established and maintained by the LPN or the Assisted Living Manager and/or Vancouver Coastal Site Case Manager.
Understands the process for delegation of health care procedures and accepts assignments that are delegated appropriately by health care professionals.
Observes and reports changes in residents' physical condition and cognitive/emotional status to the LPN and Assisted Living Manager.
Collaborates with the LPN Team Leader to suggest needed alterations to authorized support services.
Understands common health-related conditions and basic needs of residents.
Providing directions to residents for activities and mealtimes.
Ensuring the safety of residents by following established procedures and care guides.
Providing Care with respect, assisting residents to maintain their independence and individuality.
Includes family members/significant others when interacting with residents, as appropriate.
Monitors environmental safety hazards.
Reports and records of incidents, errors, or accidents.
Records observations accurately and documents service provided and resident-related events.
Assisting with beverage service in the dining room, removing and giving back walkers to residents, and other assigned duties as required.
Assists with tray service for residents who are ill.
If necessary, will remind those residents that have cognitive impairment of activity times.
Assist residents with sight or hearing impairment with providing them with knowledge about the activity programs if needed.
Encourage residents to seek out activity programs.
Responds to, and acts appropriately in, emergency or disaster situations.
Takes direction from LPN for delegated tasks.
Demonstrates an appreciation of the heritage, values and wisdom of the residents and an understanding of the aging process, and/or living with a disability.
Acts as an ambassador and public relations representative when dealing with the public.
Maintains own competence.
Attends and participates in staff meetings as well as evaluations with direct supervisor.
Participates in in-service, projects or committees, as required.
Understands the importance of, and maintains, resident confidentiality.
Demonstrate safe practices for residents.
Demonstrates safe practices for self, including back care and universal precautions, and influenza immunization. Maintain up to date Health and Safety practices in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Cooperate with other health team members to provide services in accordance with the Personal Service Plans.
Take responsibility for staff replacement for RCA shifts when the staff scheduler, or LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) or Resident Service Manager is not in the building or as delegated.
And all other duties as assigned by direct supervisor and as per individual resident personal service plans.

lifting and serving beverages weighing up to a maximum of 6lbs
Must be in good health and demonstrate emotional stability to manage the physical, mental, and emotional demand of the position.
Strong interpersonal skills are required, along with the ability to respond effectively to residents in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work collaboratively with a team.

Education And Experience Qualifications
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
Successful completion of Health Care Worker or Health Care Assistant certificate or diploma from an Accredited Canadian school
Must be registered RCA in BC and in good standing with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry.
Must include successful completion of the medication administration module as required by Vancouver Coastal Health
Must have grade 12 or equivalent.

Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements
Preference will be given to candidates with experience providing assistance and support to the elderly and/or disabled in a senior housing setting.
Skills And Capabilities (examples Provided Below)
Attention to details, problem solving and analytical skills.
Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
Must be able to read, write and speak fluently in the English language.
Compensation
The target hiring range for this position is $23.30 to $25.48 with a maximum of $27.65.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
