SNOLAB is Canada's deep-underground science laboratory, located at a depth of 2 kilometers in Vale's Creighton Mine near Sudbury, Ontario. The Position
As a certified Machinist at SNOLAB, you will lead operations of our machine shops located both on the surface and underground. This pivotal role involves leveraging your extensive technical expertise in the design, fabrication, and maintenance of precision components. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the operation of advanced machine tools, ensuring adherence to exacting specifications and safety codes.
We are seeking an individual who takes pride in their workmanship, exhibits a proactive approach to innovation, and continuously seeks to refine their machining skills. Your ability to effectively manage both machine shops and address complex challenges will be key to advancing our unique experimental projects.
Work with supervisors, scientists, and engineers to push technical limits and machine one-of-a-kind parts
Read diagrams, manuals, and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
Install, align, dismantle, and move industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, such as laboratory equipment, vacuum, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, etc. according to layout plans.
Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as overhead and portable cranes, forklifts, and jacks to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up, and repair of machinery.
Inspect/examine machinery and equipment to investigate irregularities or malfunctions and provide diagnostic reports.
Operate machine tools such as lathes, waterjet, milling machines, drill presses, band saws and grinders to fabricate new parts required for experiments, overhauls, and set-up of machinery.
Assist experimental program through the construction, installation and commissioning of experimental components, process systems and support structures.
Generation of required work documentation whether for quoting, purchase order input, fabrication drawing, or completing workplans/test records and as-builts will also be required.

Education:
Grade 12 diploma and an Ontario certification in a relevant trade is required.
Experience:
Experience as a certified tradesperson; Machinist, Millwright, or other relevant trade.
Experience working as a certified tradesperson in a machine shop.
Salary Range $79,972-$86,350
Salary will be determined by qualifications and experience and includes an attractive benefits package. Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with SNOLAB policies.
