Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior P&C Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is ideal for early-career professionals with a strong foundation in electrical engineering who are eager to grow their technical skills and gain hands-on experience in high-voltage substation projects.
As a Junior Engineer, you will support the design, development, and execution of protection and control (P&C) systems under the guidance of senior engineers. This position offers an excellent opportunity to build practical experience across the full project lifecycle—from assisting with power system studies and developing design documentation to supporting procurement and field implementation activities. You will work in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment that encourages learning, mentorship, and professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design:
- Assist in developing protection single line diagrams
- Support the preparation of system schematics, panel layouts, bills of materials, wiring diagrams, and logic diagrams.
- Develop SCADA IO lists, network architectures, and time-synchronization architectures.
- Assist in developing SCADA I/O lists, network architectures, and time-synchronization architectures.
- Support configuration of protection, control, and automation equipment under supervision.
- Contribute to conceptual designs and cost estimates with guidance from senior engineers.
- Assist in performing power system studies such as load flow analysis, short circuit studies, arc flash analysis, and protection coordination studies.
- Revise and update drawings and documents based on internal and client review feedback.
- Project Documentation:
- Prepare and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Ensure documentation accuracy and compliance with company standards and industry requirements.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with senior engineers to ensure alignment with project scope and design objectives.
- Coordinate with vendors and clients as directed to support project deliverables.
- Participate in internal design reviews and team meetings.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and knowledge sharing within the team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
- Registered or eligible for Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status (preferred).
- 0–3 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering (co-op or internship experience considered an asset).
- Basic proficiency in AutoCAD (knowledge of MicroStation is beneficial).
- Familiarity with ETAP or other power system analysis tools is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Willingness to travel to substation sites as needed.
- Knowledge of power systems, protection principles, and industry standards is considered an advantage.
