Position Overview

SOFIA House is seeking an organized, motivated, and community-minded Development Coordinator to support fundraising, grant development, and community engagement initiatives. Working alongside the Program Manager and reporting directly to the Executive Director, this role supports the organization's sustainability through coordinated fundraising efforts, grant writing support, and community partnership development.

This position is primarily remote, with occasional on-site participation required for fundraising and community events.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising & Community Engagement

  • Coordinate community campaigns and third-party fundraising initiatives
  • Assist with the planning and execution of fundraising and community engagement events
  • Support the development and implementation of public awareness and fundraising campaigns
  • Represent SOFIA House at community events, outreach opportunities, and partnership meetings as required
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners, donors, and stakeholders

Grant Development & Organizational Support

  • Research funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities
  • Assist in drafting, editing, and submitting grant applications and funding proposals
  • Support grant reporting requirements and maintain funding documentation
  • Track fundraising activities, outcomes, and grant timelines to support organizational accountability
  • Provide administrative and project support to the Executive Director related to funding development and organizational growth

Administrative & Financial Support

  • Complete administrative tasks including invoicing, bill payments, and cash/cheque deposits
  • Maintain organized electronic and paper filing systems
  • Work collaboratively with the SOFIA House accountant to support financial documentation processes
  • Assist with record-keeping and reporting related to fundraising and development activities
  • Other duties as required to support organizational operations and development goals

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience or education in nonprofit administration, communications, fundraising, public administration, or a related field is considered an asset
  • Strong written communication skills, particularly for grant writing and professional correspondence
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience coordinating events, partnerships, or community initiatives is an asset
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining collaboration with team members
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general digital tools; experience with donor or data tracking systems is an asset
  • Understanding of or commitment to trauma-informed, anti-violence, and equity-focused community work is strongly valued

Compensation & Terms

  • $20.00 per hour
  • 20 hours per week
  • 12-month contract position

  • Flexible scheduling with occasional evening or weekend events

About SOFIA House

SOFIA House is a second- and third-stage housing program supporting women and families fleeing interpersonal violence. Through trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and community-based programming, SOFIA House provides long-term housing and wraparound supports that promote safety, healing, and stability.
