A Dietary Aide in a retirement home assists in the preparation, portioning, serving, and delivery of meals to residents. The role supports the dietary and nutrition team to ensure residents receive safe, nutritious, and appetizing meals that meet their dietary needs and medical requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and assembly of meals according to standardized menus.
- Portion and plate meals following specific diet orders (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, pureed diets).
- Serve meals in the dining room or deliver trays to residents' rooms.
- Set up and clean dining areas before and after meals.
- Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Follow proper food handling and sanitation procedures in accordance with Ontario Public Health standards.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and food storage areas.
- Monitor food temperatures and record logs as required.
- Report resident concerns, allergies, or special dietary needs to the Dietary Manager or Cook.
- Follow policies under the Long-Term Care Homes Act (if working in long-term care) and Ontario Ministry of Health regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Food Handler Certification (required in Ontario).
- Knowledge of safe food handling practices.
- Experience in food service, healthcare, or retirement homes is an asset.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $20.00-$21.00 per hour
