The Mike Petryk School of Dentistry invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position in the discipline of Comprehensive Care (CC) for the Bridge Training to Dental Practice in Canada (BTDPC) Program. The position has an anticipated start date of May 1, 2026. The initial appointment ends on April 30, 2027, and has a possilibility of renewal.
Responsibilities are preclinical and clinical teaching as well as administrative duties. The initial assignment for this position will be as a Comprehensive Care (CC) Director - BTDPC.
Comprehensive Care Model Background
Students of the Bridge Training to Dental Practice in Canada (BTDPC) Program, under the supervision of faculty, provide comprehensive dental care for members of the public at the Mike Petryk School of Dentistry's Oral Health Clinic in Kaye Edmonton Clinic. Additional faculty (full-time, part-time, generalists and specialists) and staff (clinical and administrative) support the team.
The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of the world's top academic health science centres. With 21 departments, multiple research institutes and centres, and a focus on excellence in education, research, and clinical care, the faculty trains outstanding medical and dental professionals and drives global health innovation in collaboration with partners across sectors.
The Bridge CC Director has an important leadership role in the clinical program. Within their team they are responsible for:
- Providing clinical instruction to students in the Bridge program.
- The formative and summative assessment of Bridge students
- Overseeing the overall functioning, efficiency and productivity metrics including numbers of patients seen and revenue generation
- Ensuring patients receive timely and a high-standard of comprehensive dental care
- Ensuring students learn in a supportive and positive clinical environment.
- Monitoring the clinical progression and assessment of students
- Ensuring students receive a range of clinical experiences throughout the program.
- Preparing students for the transition into practice after graduation.
The responsibilities for this position fall into four categories:
- Administration
- Simulation instruction
- Clinical Patient Care instruction
- Student Progress
Applicants will have graduated from an accredited DDS/DMD or equivalent program and be eligible for licensure with the College of Dental Surgeons of Alberta. At least five years' experience in practicing general clinical dentistry with a high degree of confidence in managing all aspects of general dentistry, including fixed and removable prosthodontics, is required. The successful applicant will play a critical role in ensuring the seamless integration and ongoing support of pre-clinical practices within our dynamic clinical setting. A core responsibility will involve the continuous calibration and alignment of pre-clinical methodologies with clinical application, ensuring a cohesive and effective educational and operational environment.
Applicants must develop proficiency with digital technologies pertinent to modern clinical dentistry as well as a strong command of administrative digital platforms and tools, including but not limited to:
- Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, etc.)
- Cally (internal academic scheduling/assessment/tracking tool), Canvas (Learning Management System)
- various internal data dashboards
- axiUm (dental practice management software), and other relevant practice management and communication software.
The ideal candidate will possess a proactive approach to technology integration and a commitment to fostering an environment where pre-clinical foundations are robustly supported by clinical practice. Applications from experienced clinicians interested in making the transition from private practice to full-time teaching are encouraged. Time may be allocated to Professional (Clinical) Practice.
