The London Public Library is a welcoming, inclusive community space that serves patrons of all ages. Security Guards at this site play a key role in maintaining a safe, respectful, and calm environment for staff and visitors. The position requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a customer-service approach to security.
Position: Full-Time Security Guard
Site: London Public Library
Hours: Monday-Thursday (14:00-22:00), Friday (11:00-18:30)
Payrate: $18.54/hour
Overtime Method: Employment Standards Act – calculating after 88 hours bi-weekly
Posting Date: February 10th, 2026
Internal Closing Date: February 17th, 2026
External Closing Date: March 10th, 2026
Key Responsibilities
Opening and closing the facility, patrolling interior and exterior spaces and controlling access/egress, providing security escorts, as required
Operating, accessing, and occasionally monitoring the video surveillance equipment
Monitoring and responding to alarm systems
Guards shall, at all times maintain a high standard of civility, deportment and appearance and guards shall proactive a philosophy of compassion and de-escalation
Supporting staff, volunteers, tenants and Library patrons by knowing and understanding the Library's Rules of Conduct and being able to apply these rules in a fair, dignified and positive manner.
Reporting Incidents using the Library's Incident Reporting Tool
Resolving incidents according to the Library's guidelines, instructions, procedures and reporting on incidents according to established procedures
Protecting all persons (including public, staff, volunteers, on-site contractors, tenants) and property in the event of medical, fire, disaster, severe weather, bomb threat, evacuation and other emergencies
Functioning as the Primary First Aid service provider at the Central Library. This might include the ability to administer a blocking medication such as Naloxone and use of devices such as automated external defibrillators (AED), and
All Emergency occurs are to be reported to the Library as soon as possible. A written incident report, using the Library's Incident Reporting Tool, shall be provided to the Library on any or all minor/major incidents
Prerequisites
Valid Security License for the province of Ontario
Valid First Aid & CPR Level C from a WSIB approved provider
English (oral and written) fluency is a must
2 Years of experience in security is required
Legally authorized to work in Canada
