The Senior Engineer, Distribution System Planning plays a critical role in shaping the future of ENMAX's electrical distribution system as it transitions from traditional planning to advanced, technology enabled approaches. This is a rewarding opportunity for a seasoned planning engineer who thrives in leading complex initiatives, mentoring others, and turning ideas into reality. In this role, you will take the lead on advanced planning initiatives that inform the system roadmap, assess short and long term impacts of load growth, new customer connections, and emerging technologies, and develop projects that maintain system capacity and reliability. Working closely with cross-functional partners, you will blend deep technical expertise with sound business judgment to steward programs from concept through completion, seeing the real world results of your work while directly enabling the energy transition.
Major Responsibilities
Lead Advanced Planning Tactic Initiatives and champion complex Distribution Planning Projects
Make technical decisions within distribution planning and provide technical leadership to others
Develop new and maintain existing planning processes, tools and standards
Develop innovative ideas to improve core Distribution System Planning tasks and address new responsibilities related to electrification and advanced planning
Lead the annual load forecast and system assessment of DSP with improvement in forecasting accuracy, efficiency and capability
Accountable for the identification and development of substation capacity upgrades and new substation projects
Evaluate complex customer connections and determine system changes required to allow the customer service connection. Issue out capital work for identified system changes
Provide technical support to key customers regarding the system requirements related to their connection service
Ensure system investment in customer projects align with EPC investment practices
Identify and estimate customer loading trends to support load forecasting, system assessment and general system development incorporating the latest technologies
Assist in regulatory undertakings as required (AUC, AESO, etc.)
Education Required
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, preferably in Energy or Electrical Engineering
P.Eng. status with The Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscientists in Alberta (APEGA).
Qualifications & Experience
10+ years of relevant experience with a combination of the following knowledge and skills:
Strong knowledge of the operations of a utility distribution system, its equipment, and general processes
Experience developing system demand forecasts
Experience collaborating, influencing, and aligning cross functional teams
Experience in distribution system planning
Experience in data science is preferred
Working experience with CYME is preferred
Experience writing Business cases and Need Identification documents to justify solutions
Basic knowledge of the Alberta regulatory environment

Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at ENMAX Place th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
