The Personal Property Adjuster is essential to Gore Mutual's success, acting as a safeguard of both customer trust and financial stability. This role demands a blend of meticulous investigation, collaborative problem-solving, and decisive action within defined guidelines. Adjusters independently manage a portfolio of primarily personal property claims, navigating a spectrum of complexity. Their mission is to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle these claims, always adhering to company protocols and regulations. By thoroughly assessing losses, determining accurate coverage, and efficiently resolving claims, they contribute directly to Gore Mutual's bottom line. Beyond technical expertise, the adjuster's focus on delivering a positive claims experience builds lasting relationships with policyholders, further strengthening the company's reputation. What you will do:
Claims Investigation and Assessment:
Conduct thorough and timely investigations of personal property losses, including site visits, interviews, and analysis of relevant documentation.
Gather evidence to determine cause of loss, scope of damage, and applicable coverage.
Document findings accurately and clearly in the claim file.
Collaborate with experts (engineers, contractors, etc.) as needed to assess complex losses.
Coverage Determination and Reserve Setting:
Analyze policy wordings and endorsements to determine coverage applicability and set accurate reserves based on investigation findings.
Apply knowledge of personal property insurance principles and legal requirements.
Consult with senior adjusters or underwriters for complex coverage issues.
Regularly review and adjust reserves as new information becomes available.
Negotiation and Settlement:
Negotiate fair and equitable settlements with claimants, balancing customer satisfaction with cost containment for Gore Mutual.
Explain coverage decisions clearly and professionally to claimants.
Utilize effective negotiation techniques to reach mutually agreeable settlements.
Escalate complex or high-value settlements to senior adjusters or management as appropriate.
Customer Service and Communication:
Provide exceptional customer service throughout the claims process, maintaining open and transparent communication with all stakeholders.
Manage customer expectations and address concerns within established guidelines.
Promptly respond to inquiries and provide regular updates on claim status.
Explain claims processes and procedures to policyholders and brokers.
Build rapport and trust with claimants to facilitate a positive claims experience.
Escalate complaints or sensitive issues to senior adjusters or management.
Risk Mitigation and Continuous Improvement:
Identify trends and potential risks related to personal property claims, contributing to ongoing risk mitigation and process improvement efforts.
Participate in post-loss reviews and team discussions to share insights and lessons learned.
Identify opportunities to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
Stay informed about industry developments and regulatory changes that may impact claims handling.
What you need to succeed:
3-5+ years of property claims adjusting experience preferred: This foundation in property damage assessment, coverage analysis, and negotiation is essential.
Post secondary education preferred
Experience with personal insurance policies: Familiarity with the nuances of personal property coverage, including business interruption, builder's risk, and equipment breakdown.
Demonstrated ability to handle moderately complex claims: Experience with claims involving multiple parties, technical issues, or higher financial values.
Customer service experience: Proven ability to communicate effectively with claimants, brokers, and other stakeholders in a professional and empathetic manner.
Experience using claims management systems: Proficiency with software like Guidewire or similar platforms is beneficial for efficient claims handling.
Skills required for the role:
In-depth knowledge of personal property insurance principles and practices: Understanding of policy wordings, coverage options, exclusions, and legal requirements.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to assess complex situations, gather relevant information, and make sound decisions based on facts and evidence.
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills: Clear and concise communication with various stakeholders, including internal colleagues, claimants, brokers, and experts.
Effective negotiation skills: Ability to negotiate fair and equitable settlements that meet the needs of both the policyholder and the insurer.
Detail-oriented and organized: Ability to manage multiple claims simultaneously, maintain accurate records, and meet deadlines.
Proficient in using technology: Comfortable with claims management systems, Microsoft Office suite, and other relevant software.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team: Balance individual responsibilities with collaborating effectively with colleagues and other departments.
Strong time management and prioritization skills: Effectively manage workload and prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance.
Adaptability and flexibility: Able to adjust to changing priorities, new information, and unexpected challenges.
Commitment to continuous learning: Willingness to stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and new technologies.
Location: This is a hybrid work model which requires 2 days spent in our vibrant Cambridge, Ontario or Vancouver, British Columbia office
The expected base salary range for this position is $52, $86, Depending on your relevant experience, skills, qualifications, market conditions and business needs, base compensation may vary. You have the potential to earn more through Gore Mutual's discretionary bonus program which gives you an opportunity to increase your total compensation, provided the business meets its performance targets and you meet your individual goals.
Please note: This range reflects the expected base salary for this role but may not represent the full compensation range for all experience and skill levels. During the recruitment process, we will discuss and consider how your unique qualifications align with the broader range for this position.
