Position Summary
The Jr. Plant Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the manufacturing facility, ensuring production targets are met safely, efficiently, and in compliance with food safety and regulatory standards. This role oversees production, quality, maintenance, sanitation, and warehouse operations while driving continuous improvement and team development.
The ideal candidate has strong experience in food manufacturing, understands GMP requirements, and is comfortable working in a hands-on environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Production
Oversee daily plant operations to ensure production targets, quality standards, and delivery timelines are met
Monitor production performance and address issues that impact efficiency or output
Ensure proper staffing levels and scheduling to support operational needs
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and improve productivity
Food Safety & Compliance
Ensure full compliance with GMP, CFIA requirements, and internal food safety programs
Oversee HACCP program implementation and audits
Conduct regular plant walkthroughs and ensure corrective actions are completed
Maintain compliance with OHSA, ESA, WSIB, and other employment regulations
People Leadership
Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and department managers
Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and safety
Support HR with performance management, investigations, and disciplinary processes
Promote employee engagement and retention initiatives
Quality & Maintenance
Work closely with Quality Assurance to ensure product specifications are met
Ensure preventive maintenance programs are followed
Minimize downtime through proactive planning and coordination
Financial & Strategic Oversight
Manage plant budget, including labour, materials, and operating costs
Monitor KPIs and report performance metrics to senior leadership
Support capital improvement planning and implementation
Qualifications
7+ years of experience in food manufacturing, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
Strong knowledge of GMP, HACCP, CFIA regulations
Solid understanding of OHSA, WSIB, and employment standards
Proven experience managing production teams in a fast-paced environment
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Hands-on leadership style
Preferred Qualifications
Post-secondary education in Food Science, Engineering, Operations Management, or related field
Experience in lean manufacturing or continuous improvement programs
Experience working in a mid-sized manufacturing facility
