Job Title: IT Senior Project Manager
Location: Brampton (Greater Toronto Area), Canada with ocassional travel to the United Kingdom. Onboarding will likely require an extended period of UK presence of up to 3 weeks.
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated IT Senior Project Manager to join our dynamic international team to establish a physical representation in Canada. The successful candidate will be responsible for local leadership and management of the delivery of a complex, large-scale greenfield food production plant start-up in GTA serving a tier 1 retailer.
Project timescales are extremely demanding with an essential focus, on an expedited delivery process, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Senior Project Manager will play a key role in driving the successful delivery of plant start-up priorities, managing local delivery activities (IT system testing/assurance) and workstreams, and fostering strong working relationships with key business and end client stakeholders. This role requires the rare combination of a strategic thinker who is equally comfortable with sleeves up, delivery with exceptional pragmatic implementation and problem-solving skills; someone thrives in a fast-paced environment immersed in significant ambiguity and full of demanding delivery targets. Key Responsibilities
The IT Senior Project Manager will be accountable for the end-to-end delivery of several workstreams from initiation to closure/hypercare. Key responsibilities include:
Project Planning and Execution: Working with UK based programme and project leadership - develop and execute comprehensive project plans, defining project scope, goals, and deliverables. This includes creating detailed work plans, identifying resources, and establishing clear timelines and milestones. Testing and assurance will be critical elements of the role.
Budget and Financial Management: Develop and manage project budgets, tracking project costs and ensuring financial objectives are met. The role requires providing regular financial reporting and forecasting to senior management.
Risk and Issue Management: Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues. Develop and implement robust risk management plans to minimize potential impacts on project delivery.
Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with all project stakeholders, including clients, internal teams, and third-party vendors. Ensure clear and consistent communication throughout the project lifecycle.
Team Leadership and Management: Lead, motivate, and manage cross-functional project teams. Provide clear direction, support, and guidance to team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. This may include line management responsibilities for other project managers.
Quality Assurance: Ensure all project deliverables meet the required quality standards and are fit for purpose. Implement and manage quality assurance processes throughout the project lifecycle.
Reporting and Governance: Provide regular and accurate project status reports to senior management and stakeholders. Ensure compliance with all relevant project management methodologies, governance frameworks, and company policies.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
Leadership and People Management: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage large, diverse teams. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences.
Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically and align project delivery with broader business objectives.
International Delivery: Previous experience of working within an international delivery model encompassing different cultures, demanding time zone challenges and resolution of many last minute emerging delivery challenges.
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues in a timely and effective manner.
Negotiation and Conflict Resolution: Proven ability to negotiate effectively and resolve conflicts between stakeholders.
Financial Acumen: Strong financial management skills, with experience in budget development, cost management, and financial reporting.
Technical Proficiency: Proficient in the use of project management software and tools, such as Microsoft Project, Jira, or similar.
Desirable Skills
Experience with Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies.
Experience
A minimum of 6-10 years of experience in a project management role within an IT organisation, with a proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale, complex IT projects.
Demonstrable experience in managing project budgets, resources, and timelines.
Experience in a senior or leadership role, with responsibility for managing and mentoring other project managers.
Education and Certifications
Professional certification in project management is essential.
