MaKami College is seeking a detail-oriented Intermediate / Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. This role supports full-cycle accounting, management reporting, variance analysis, and government-related reporting requirements. As MaKami continues to grow, this position provides an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a mission-driven institution helping students achieve their educational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and preparation of supporting schedules.
Assist with management reporting by preparing variance analyses, trend summaries, and other insights used by leadership to understand financial performance.
Review GL coding to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with government funding and reporting requirements.
Prepare recurring and ad hoc government reporting packages, ensuring alignment with provincial and federal criteria.
Conduct detailed variance analysis tied to government-funded programs, grants, and regulated reporting cycles.
Maintain audit-ready supporting documentation for all required submissions.
Collaborate with internal teams to gather accurate financial data across departments.
Perform ad hoc financial analysis and assist with special projects as required.
Ideal Candidate
CPA designated or in progress, or 5–7 years of full-cycle accounting experience; non-profit or education sector experience is an asset.
Strong understanding of non-profit financial reporting requirements.
Proficiency in NetSuite is highly desirable.
Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, LOOKUPs, and analytical tools.
Experience with reconciliations and variance analysis.
High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and maintain accuracy and consistency in deliverables.
