Overview
Our client, a Winnipeg-based organization undergoing a period of transition and operational refinement, is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to provide immediate leadership across the accounting and finance function.
This hands-on leader will stabilize reporting processes, strengthen internal controls, and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting during a critical period. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, leadership capability, and the ability to step in quickly with minimal ramp-up time.
This is a highly visible role partnering directly with executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Close Process
Lead full-cycle month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial statements in accordance with ASPE or IFRS
Oversee general ledger integrity, reconciliations, and accruals
Prepare board-ready reporting packages and financial analysis
Leadership & Team Oversight
Provide leadership to accounting staff, including mentoring and performance oversight
Assess team structure and recommend process improvements
Step in as the senior finance authority during transition
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
Evaluate and strengthen internal controls and financial policies
Identify process inefficiencies and implement streamlined workflows
Support audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors
Cash Flow & Operational Support
Oversee cash management, forecasting, and working capital
Support budgeting and reforecasting initiatives
Provide financial insight to operational leaders
Qualifications
CPA designation (required)
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Controller-level leadership
Strong knowledge of ASPE and/or IFRS
Experience in manufacturing, distribution, industrial, or multi-entity environments preferred
Proven ability to step into interim or turnaround situations
Advanced Excel skills; ERP system experience required (NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar preferred)
Ability to work on-site in Winnipeg
